Night lighting attempt. IfocusHQ

Hey all.

i got me briteks about two weeks ago and have been using them quite alot to test some lighting ideas out. Please keep the comments away from britek :) lol, i have heard much of it and am greatly enjoying them, so please dont kill joy :)

anywho, this is my attempt at lighting for a night scene using the 600/1200k lights.

This was actually a video testing my new AT4073a outside with and without the bass rolloff, from different distances to see its pickup, however it was very windy.

i then tested it beside the AT835b, the entry level mic from Audio technica, and it was surprisingly better in removing the windy windy sound from outside ( windsock on, not a great one though). It was much less sensitive than the 4073a, but had a bit of a clearer sound, not as full though.

anywho here is a still using my good ol ifocusHQ from twocik ( i can never remember you alias!)

very sorry for the compression. It does not look NEARLY this grainy in the footage. I think the uprezz may have done something as well.

i have actually.

i wanted to go for a very realistic feel as opposed to what ive done in the past with the blue blue look.

ill post the original grab later on for comparison.

Here is the original, but again, i could have had alot more fun with the CC, but i wanted to go for a realistic nightlike look, without the over stylization of the overly tinted blue and crushed blacks.

just find it looks more true to night since.

Hey PaPa, looks good, very realistic, however, was it your intention to have that round glare just left of the cable? Is it supposed to be from an overhead light? I'd like to see this a bit more diffused, not as centered as it is now...

oh lol, thats from the light thats attached to my house just above her head.

there was no intention of even demonstrating lighting. the sole purspose was to get my mother outside, speaking, and trying the AT835b compared to the AT4073a from different distances, but the lighting looked nice, so i figured id give it a go.

nothing in here was intentional. but maybe im starting to get the hang of lighting a bit better

the lights i got are the britek 600/1200watt's might be listed as 500/1000, but they also sit 600 watt bulbs.

great work so far.

your two attempts definately rock, and much more of a styalistic look.

i could go with the super crushed blacks and low saturation, which works alot of the time, but i find it even more of a challenge to get the look without having to alter the image so immensily, know what i mean?

lighting is such a huge challenge for me, but im sure with more practice ill get where i need to be. hopefully the briteks will hold up untill then.

oh, and lake, i guess this can also be used as example to what i meant in your thread when i said try higher contrast lighting and how at night there is little contrast because of how little light there is, but you light with a high contrast ratio and you get something thats visually aesthetic for a night look. all my opinion however. Different looks for different crooks. i didnt steal nuttin

i like it...i thought the first pic was the original :) good job...i thought you had set up the light with a blue gel. looks authentic to me. what did you use to uprez?

just transformed it in photoshop, nothing serious.

im in the midst of getting ready for my shoot. first solo film for film production in uni, nervous... damn sykonics.. however yo uspell it. Always feel insecure about not being able to see your image properly with a bolex.....
