Nieces and Nephews

My sister and brother in law wanted a short video of their kids to send to family. I grabbed my camera, ran down to their house, and shot for about 45 minutes. I desaturated the color and added a Sapphire glow effect on most of the shots (quite heavy on the indoor stuff). They really wanted that sort of bleached out, soft, foggy look.

This is only about the third time I've used the camera, and I really noticed this time how difficult it was to get and keep focus just using the LCD. And outdoors, even in the shade, it was tough for me to get a good feel for the color of the individual shots using the LCD. I'm chalking it up mostly to my inexperience, but I'm really starting to think an HD monitor would be a HUGE help.

Anyway, advice/feedback much appreciated.

In post I would make the images more warm. The effects are nice, and suffice for the feel of the video, but their skin tones and the background seem very pale and cold. I think the video images, music, and purpose all have a warmer more friendly feel. Experiment with raising the color tones to the warm spectrum.

Thanks.

Prodigy, you're right, pulling the color out really gave everything a very pale overall look. In fact the only shot that wasn't desaturated was the shot of the dog (Murphy). When they saw the desaturated look they thought it was very cool, but I agree, warmer tones seem more "friendly".

I'm amazed how different choices in color correction can totally change the feel of a scene.
