Nice video demo of the Odyssey 7Q

I thought the host was fine- Jesse has a high energy style. Disclaimer, I buy and rent at Midtown (shout out to Scot!).

If it was "Just the facts", it would have been pretty boring, might as well just read a spec sheet.

And Dan? He's not old, he's experienced, and the man!

Regarding the lag issue, I don't think that's an FS700 issue as I have a Small HD DP6 and there is no noticeable lag to it. The rolling shutter is definitely much more pronounced on the Small HD but that's not a big deal as it's not recorded that way. But yeah, kind of a bummer that Dan says there will be a lag from the 4K stream on the 7Q as the 4:2:2 10-bit will be derived from that :(

I find the lag on the Kinotehnik EVF is only about 2 or 3 frames - I've got used to it and don't find it a problem. The lag on the Atomos was more noticeable, and that used SDI not HDMI.

But interestingly if I plug my FS700 into the HDMI port of my Pioneer LX5090 TV (great TV by the way even though it's 4 years old) then the lag is about 15 frames - very noticeable.

Hopefully the lag on the Odyssey will be acceptable.

Sony support has confirmed that it's a camera issue: "In regards to the HDMI lag, this is a characteristic for this device and a few other Sony cameras, there is micro delay between the camera and the monitor/tv when using the HDMI output. We have seen this here on our own cameras." I asked later and this applies to SDI as well.

I am however starting to think I'm seeing more lag then others since I'm the only one that finds it unacceptable. I will have to some more tests.

Does anyone know if it will be possible to record a feed from the FS700 AND the black magic pocket camera simultaneously? I've bought the pocket camera as a B cam for interviews but the 42 minute limit per 64GB SD card on the pocket is a killer. Would be great to record both feeds on the one device. I'm assuming it will only be possible with the Multi-stream upgrade but an extra $3k is a bit steep (relatively speaking).

You can record up to four HD signals at once in the Multi-Stream mode. One nice feature is that not only do they not need to be genlocked, they don't even have to be matching signal types. At CineGear Expo in NY last week, we were showing a 7Q taking in two feeds simultaneously -- one at 29.97 and the other at 23.98. Both displayed on the screen and the recorder didn't care.

Which generally means "end of the month", in my experience.

Hope it's not the case for this!

I hope that isn't the case either! They said on facebook 'end of the month' and they posted that yesterday, so I assume October :-) They showed a bunch of OLED monitors, so hopefully production is blazing!

According to Convergent Design's twitter feed this morning, shipping begins in 3 weeks for the 7Q.

On a serious note - one thing I'd like to know (and this has been mentioned in threads before) is will the 7Q have the ability to switch to high speed shooting without having to change the SSDs at some point in the future? Obviously this would be far more practical when shooting on the hoof and also from a cost perspective?

I'm curious about this as well. This is a pretty issue IMO, as having to buy 2 sets of cards just to shoot Slow Motion RAW would be expensive and painful on the workflow. Any thoughts on this Dan or Mitch?

I brought this question up at a meeting the other day and our engineers are currently working to see if we can make it so that one does not have to change drives.
