A nice video demo of the Odyssey 7Q and an interview with Dan from Convergent Design.

The link takes you to the home page and as I'm posting this the video is on the home page. A few days from now, you may have to navigate the site to find the video.

I'm really beginning to wonder what in the world that "popular codec" might be :)

Well....Dan's great, and the product is great - but that host is the WORST. I kept cringing throughout the entire video.

I have a different take, but i wonder what were some of your least favorite parts?

I thought the presenter was pretty good - happy and positive. A lot of us know it's hard to get a talent who can be good on camera, especially on a live event and interviewing people. I like the way he re-capped the questions from the audience/internet - good technique. Very informative as well.

jtownvideo, I'm guessing from your username and your post title that you are the presenter in the video. For me the content was king and I didn't have the problem with your presentation style.

In the way of feedback it did seem like you were rushing a bit at times, but you were covering a lot of material and it was shot live so not a big deal from my perspective.

Honestly, it wasn't the host's rushing or his little mistakes that bothered me - those are forgivable, and understandable given the amount of material, the fact that it's live etc. It was the way he didn't seem to listen to Dan's responses, kept interrupting him (when clearly he was in the middle of saying something more), and - most of all - how he kept trying to be "cute" and "knowing", and laughing at his own "jokes" (which weren't funny), and laughing (or "pre-laughing") at things the guest was saying or about to say (that weren't funny or meant to be). Maybe he was just super-nervous, but it all came off very odd and awkward and unprofessional, and was irritating (for me) to watch. Just my opinion, YMMV, and others might see nothing wrong - but I won't be watching any more of their videos.

But, more on topic....Dan is the man, the 7Q is the BOMB, and I can't wait to get my hands on one. :)

Thanks for the video. Man, who would of thought that a 45 minute long video showcasing this thing I'm really interested in could be viewed from my desk without paying or going anywhere. I hate people who contribute nothing to anything, and when someone does you a service, complain that it's not good enough. People are forgetting how to be polite and say thanks and it f'ing sucks. The presenter is clearly a passionate guy on the topic and spends tons of time and effort to give the community great content for FREE.

Sgt Friday, in his inimitable style said, "just the facts ma'am, just the facts". Great! I am not interested in a docudrama or a docu-comedy. And this guy was just too cool for his own shirt. He should be there to present the product, not try to upstage it with a soft shoe routine.

I don't know what all the fuss is about. I didn't even notice your presenting style. I was far too busy poring over the hardware. So in my books that's a job well done. As I said - you're not presenting the oscars so lets not worry about your presenting style. Good luck with the next one.

I'm only 11 mins into the presentation but this is a pretty good presentation.

Well dang what do I know? Dan is such an old guy. I always thought that he is a young dude in his late 20's.

Has anyone commented on the lag on the Q7? I've tried out several EVF's with the Sony FS700 and find the lag very bothering for handheld work. I'm wondering if the SDI output has less lag? (Although Sony has confirmed it should be the same as HDMI).

My experience with borrowing an Atomos Samurai recorder/monitor (using the SDi output), is that it had slightly more lag than my Kinotehnik EVF (which is connected via the HDMI output from my FS700), so I think it's just as much to do with how the monitor deals with the signal than the speed of the connection itself - probably!

I put that very question to Dan Keaton a few weeks ago. This was his response then:

"Yes, there will be some latency. It depends on the mode. For HD, the latency should be minimal. For FS700 2K Raw or for 4K Modes, we have to decompress the FS700 Raw stream, this does not take long, but, it is a process that must occur, thus there must be a latency. I cannot, at this time, explain the exact amount of the latency."

Ok, good to know. I just tested the Kinotechnik EVF last week and the lag that the camera creates is very disturbing. I do a lot of handheld work where I need to keep up with people moving fast. When you step to the left the image on the EVF is still going right. I feel nausea that reminds me of seasickness. :) One of the most irritating things about the FS700. :(
