FCP makes block reds?

not FCP, quicktime does. i.e. MOV.

at one point, people thought it was the fault of mini dv compression which caused the red blockies.

But after owning a dvx, i wondered why mine never suffered from this issue. I then got myself a nice macbook pro, and sent it back two weeks later because alas, the horrifying blocky reds were there on my footage that was mov, but none on my pc, where the footage was captured as AVI.

Well, that sure sucks. I always thought mini dv was the culprit, but if its quicktime, then I am out of luck because thats all I've got. So is there any solution to this without a new editing system?

when i had the macbook for two weeks, i applied a blur to the red channel of about 1 pixel, and that didnt get rid of the problem, but at least it smoothed it out a touch.

Not to be Pessimistic, but it doesn't look like its bound to happen. I'm talking a year ago when the problem had already been around for an additional 2 years.
