NHL 2007-2008 Thread

My problem is that I like a lot of individual players on different teams. Sure, I'm a Sens fan. But I wouldn't mind seeing Crosby and the boys do well, or Montreal for that matter.

I'm some what the same and since I haven't seen my team in the playoffs for 4 years, it's cool to follow some other teams and players.

www.cbc.ca/sports.ca is streaming all the HNIC games for those that are interested, not sure if you can access it outside of Canada. Ottawa Vs Pittsburgh is coming up right now.

Well, about what I expected.
The Sens now have 4 starters out of the game and don't stand a chance.
Luckily Gerber was playing well. He kept it down to 2-0 for quite some time and made some big saves. It could have ended much worse than 4-0.

Once Ottawa blew 2 separate 5 on 3's it was game over.

Hopefully Volchenkov will be back tomorrow after taking a puck in the face and bleeding all over the ice. I guess he's our top shot-blocker for a reason. Poor guy...

Calgary surprised me a bit. They came out flying and held on.
Brodeur handed New York the winning goal and they could never recover.
Sakic does it again in OT for Colorado.. The man is amazing.

Can't wait to see what happens tonight!

It's nice to see the pens come up with a big first game win after we got embarrassed by Ottawa last year 6-3 in the opener.

Playoff hockey is at a whole different level from the regular season.

The Pens looked energized, but I'd say that it was a good mix of the Pens being on their game, and The Sens being way off of theirs. Injuries are obviously a part of that.

I'm surprised by the NJD loss, though.

Agreed. Ottawa has had a poor second half to the Season but playing with so many injuries makes things even worse now. With a full roster the Sens would give Pittsburgh a run for their money. I would still give the edge to the Pens this year, full roster or not.

The Sens will be lucky to steal one game this series.

As for NJ... they'll bounce back. Brodeur won't hand them a goal every game.

Agreed with all.

You knew it was bad when Ott couldn't convert on 2 5-3 chances.

It sucks here in Detroit for the other games, as VS covers some of the games, and CBC does the Canadian team games.... which last night were the same! Very annoying since I was hoping to follow the NY/NJ game...

I'm going to the wings game tonight... in the press conf. Babcock said that Homer, Stuart and Samuelsson would be in the lineup. I wonder if Franzen will continue his hot streak in the playoffs... he had something like 6 game winners in March.

Go Wings!!!

Yeah tough lose for the Wild last night, they probably deserved to win that. A great game overall. Man, Sakic is such a great player, one of my favourite Canadian players.

Yeah, Ottawa looked lost. Michael I think your prediction of 5 games is going to be right, I don't see Ottawa winning 2, If Volchenkov isn't back, there in more trouble, I can't imagine what it must feel like to block a shot with your face, damn. And good old Gary "The Senator Killer" Roberts comes through with 2 goals, he has killed the Sens in the past in the playoffs.

Playoff hockey is at a whole different level from the regular season.

Yeah, it is something else, the intensity that these guys play at is incredible. There was a point during OT last night in Minnesota were both teams were just going back and forth, it's awesome to watch.

Gary Roberts is an amazing playoff performer. I really like players that aren't afraid to drive hard to the net.

That late hit with seconds to go was a little dirty but the Playoffs can get rough.

Some great games last night.

Calgary really showed a lot of grit and determination last night.

I'm going to the Sens game tonight. Alfredsson is rumoured to be coming back, he's a "maybe" at this point. Should be fun either way...

I heard Spezza was questionable for the game... that would be a tough loss.
Spezza is definitely a go, although playing hurt.
Alfie is a maybe.

Either way... I don't expect much with all the injuries. I just want to see them play with some heart like they did for part of the last game.

Well, my squad is in a really tight, extremely entertaining battle with a great team. We're going into OT for the third straight game. I hope the finals are this good.

Well, Alfie played but he was barely out there. He wasn't fore checking as usual and you could see that he was playing hurt. Props to him for showing up and giving the team a boost.

Didn't really matter though. Penalties killed us in this game. First time I've ever seen drinks thrown on the ice in Ottawa. Just a couple of them, but still.
I think everyone wanted to string up the refs. :)

I'm just glad I only took one Sens player in my hockey pool. Between how they were playing at the end of the year and all the injuries... I knew they were doomed.

Poor Ottawa. Injuries are such a pain. (no pun intended)

Detroit loves to live dangerously. But if that's what it takes to get Osgood in and Hasek out, then fine. Osgood had one of his best years and deserves his shot in net.
