NHL 2007-2008 Thread

Same here. FSN plays the majority of the Wild games, so I get my fix pretty regularly. I dig being able to see a couple of national games per week on Versus. It'll do until I get NHL Center Ice one of these years.

I don't get Versus at home, so in the winter I'm stuck with the NBA - I'd rather stick a fork through my balls.

Good one.

Yeah, Horse, that must have been something to watch, 5 goal game, thats pretty awesome, I couldn't believe that.

It's about time Crosby started dropping the gloves. Obviously he won't be doing this all the time, but I'd rather see him doing it once in a while than constantly whining to the refs or hacking at guys, he'll get more respect and won't be hassled as much.

Yeah, that is a good point about the game, the northern states is where most of the US hockey players come from, obvioulsy due to the weather I'd say. I never played hockey as a kid in a league or anything, lots of pond hockey and lots of ball hockey too. The game isn't exactly cheap too, compared to baseball or basketball.

ESPN did offer the NHL an offer for the TV deal, but they pretty much lowballed it and the NHL rejected it (for the sake of the game they should have taken it), this was right after the lockout too and I think ESPN didn't really have any intention on putting it back on. What was it on, ESPN2 or 3, something like that? Any of you guys get Hockey Night in Canada?

The World Juniors are coming up in a couple of days, anyone follow that at all? We've won 3 years running. Nothing like a good Canada Vs USA match up, always classic.

Center ice is pretty cool, also hockey in HD is incredible, my brother just bought a 42" TV last week and I got him an HD reciever for Christmas, I'm never leaving his place.

Yeah, most teams have TV deals to show the games regionally. I feel bad for Blackhawk fans, for years there owner wouldn't allow the games to be shown regionally and blacked them out cos the games weren't sold out. That would just suck and a terrible way to market the game. I think he died and then they decided to start showing the games again.

Friends of my have a hacked satellite with TSN...that's the dream.

And, oh yes, hockey in HD is a joy to behold! My fav thing in HD, besides baseball...

I couldn't believe how awesome it looked, whenever the puck get lifted off of the ice on a pass you can see the shawdow or the all the embroiding on the Jersey's, man, just incredible. I think every Leafs game is broadcasted in HD. Can't wait to watch football on it this weekend too.

Anyone check out that Winter Classic game they played outside yesterday in Buffalo? Penguins Vs Sabres. I unfortunately was alseep for most of the game and forgot it was on.

Thought it was a great way for the NHL to advertise the game down in the States, and I think it got good ratings on NBC too. They did this in Edmonton a few years back, the difference being is that it was like -25C while it was only snowing in Buffalo yesterday and wasn't all that cold.

Of course the NHL had to showcase Sidney the Kidney.

I think it would be pretty cool to watch a hockey game in a crowd of 70,000+ people.

It was pretty entertaining. It was funny to watch guys try to stick handle while skating through a small snow bank.

Damn, to bad I missed it. Those games are cool to watch.

I think we will start seeing more and more of these, probably one every year. Minnesota would be a great place to hold one, You could even have Coach Bombay drive onto the ice with his Limo.

Haha, I found it - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o2eUVMnbue8

I would love to see somebody break out the notorious triple deke in a game someday, that would be hilarious - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGkYwmKZuxA - Maybe in an Allstar game.

I can't believe Disney bought a team and named it after the Mighty Ducks. I remember it being such a joke years ago, they even had a disney character/cartoon on their jerseys. Here an interesting fact, before the lockout Disney sold the team to the current owners for 75M, when the salary cap was put in place it basically doubled the value of the team, current value 3 years later - 157M, that was a smart business move. - http://49th-parallel.blogspot.com/2007/08/1.html

I think the Pit/Ott will be a good series, same with NY/NJ.

As a wings fan, I'm hoping that Colorado will beat Minnesota (blasphemy, I know) that way Ana/SJ will have to play each other in the second round. I think they are the two teams to beat in the West (besides Detroit)

And on a side note, I shot a video for a contest to win some wings tickets... but I can't post it until the contest is over... we basically made a red wings cake and threw it at my friend who is an Avs fan.

San Jose is going to be tough to beat this year.

The Wild are suddenly getting thin on the blue line. Foster (broken femur) and Schultz (appendectomy) are out so it looks like Burns and Johnsson are never going to leave the ice. The Avs are a tough team, so this could be a pretty fun series.

Horse I got four for game two, row 15 behind the net. I have not been to a playoff game since the original sea of white in Winnipeg way back. I am beyond excited. Should be good times.
