NFL 2007-2008 Thread

The Seahawks tanked big time today. As I said weeks ago, again, it was the $15,000,000 man, Shaun Alexander leading the way. All that money, and he had 17 yards on 7 carries, and lost yards on a crucial 3rd and 1. That's just an amazingly pathetic statistic for a guy who's one of the highest paid players in the league. The whole team just sleepwalked through the game as well, but what a bust Shaun has been - injured, and lousy when healthy. And how foolish it was for the team to cave to his money demands, while letting Steve Hutchinson, the guy who plowed open those holes for him to run through, go to Minnesota.

I'm starting to question just how great the Patriots are. This isn't the same team that racked up all those blowouts, and turned on the gas when they needed to to finish off the Colts in Indy. They're winning, sure, but they're almost lackadaisical about it. Playing like this is going to cost them in the playoffs. Right now, with all of their injuries, the Colts actually look like the team to beat if they can get healthy. And Jacksonville looks real tough. With their smash-mouth style I'd like their chances against the lazy Patriots on a nasty winter day.

NFC still looks like Dallas-Green Bay. Minnesota is maybe the only team possible of spoiling the soup.

I'm usually an AFC guy, rooting for the Broncos, the Jets and the Colts. But my heart is with Green Bay now.

I think that if it comes down to the Colts and the Pats for the AFC title, I'd lay my money on Indy. But there's something appealing about the Pats going undefeated all the way to the big game, then having Brett Favre have one final two minute comeback to beat them.

I like that scenario. Sounds kind of Heaven Can Wait-ish.

Well, right now the Colts are making us look bad, struggling against the lowly Raiders.

As much as I hate the Packers (as a Bears Fan and chicago person), I still have the utmost respect for Favre.

If the Packers were to win the super bowl, I'd rather have it be against the Colts then the Patriots, because the Patriots will most likely be undefeated by then. I would hate to see the Patriots lose to my arch rival team (mostly because my friend will rub it in my face)

My Prediction at this point is the New England Patriots VS Dallas Cowboys. Patriots will barely win this time.

I didn't think the Pats were lazy at all yesterday. The weather had a huge impact on that game for both teams, they were hardly throwing the ball, they kept it on the ground for the majority of the game. Also this is week 15, I'm sure every team is getting a bit tired and a little banged up, the Cowboys looked terrible yesterday. Most of the North East got hit pretty hard with a storm, that reflected on a lot of the games.

The NFC isn't up to par with the AFC, I don't see either the Cowboys or the Packers beating Indy or the Pats. I think if it comes down to it, Indy may have a tough time beating a team like the Steelers or the Jaguars.

Favre throws way to many interceptions.

If you look into the potential future match-up's in the AFC, we'll probably have Cleveland and Jax as Wildcards, and Pittsburgh and SD their opponents. I like both wildcard team's chances there. But mostly Jax. I wouldn't want to play them. But, Indy will have home, on the turf, in the 72 degree dome (which isn't football, if you ask me), and any of these teams are going to have a hard time with a well rested Colts team at home. They already beat Jax twice. Any team going into cold, loud New England in January is going to have to play uphill the whole way.

As to Favre, he does throw too many picks, but mostly when pushed, or trying to make something happen down the field. That has only been the case this year a few times.

The only disagreements I might have with those picks are that I think Aaron Rodgers can lead GB over Detroit, and the Miami-Cinn game is questionable. The Dolphins have to be somewhat inspired about having The Big Tuna in the front office to help show the way.

I anticipate the Patriots-Giants game to be the highest rated regular season game in NFL history. I also anticipate the Pats to open up a big lead with their starters playing the Giants bench, and the rest of the game being stale.

I'm old enough to remember the unbeaten Dolphins (if barely), and look back on them with a certain revere. As if there were likely better teams in history, but none were perfect like that. I didn't think, especially in the age of salary caps and free agency, that I'd ever see another unbeaten team again. Of course, the Pats still have a couple games to go, but this is a truly amazing accomplishment. If, and it's still quite the IF, they close the door here, I'll have to admit this is probably the best team in history we're watching folks. It would be 4 SuperBowls in seven years, and a couple of other years where they came damned close as well.

As to this game, the Giants, like so many other teams, brought all the fight they could muster, which was good to see. But I liked the way the Patriots seemed to just put the foot a little harder on the gas when they needed to, and put the Giants away. Those back-to-back bombs to Randy Moss was breathtaking to see. I don't think I've ever seen a team run a huge play, blow it, then come right back and run the same play for paydirt. It's almost, almost, almost like the Patriots can just turn it on at will, which is an amazing thought.

That was an awesome way to break in m HDTV. Wow. I'm usually more of a Colts fan (since rooting for KC has become an act of futility of late), but I always like seeing seemingly insurmountable records chased after.

At least the '72 Dolphin crew will be dead in the next decade or so. The thought of having to listen to Rodney Harrison or Tony Bruschi brag for the rest of my life makes me want to puke. The Pats are undeniably awesome, but I want them to go to the Superbowl against Green Bay and lose in a Brett Favre comeback victory. Favre retires and the Pats go home in tears. Hey, a guy can dream can't he?
