Definitely not. I have no interest in Spies or creating a Spy movie, I leave that to people who care about the genre.

But, I look forward to seeing what you do, John_Hudson!

Dude. Film School has too start sometime.

It is not about the genre; it is the people and story in the world.

You're bumming me out man.

Why? Because I'm not going to spend my time working on something I don't care about?

If you want to do something with a spy in it, go for it. I don't have any interest in spies, secret documents, or decoder pens. As I said, I'll leave that to the people that care about spies.

And, relax on the Film school thing. I get my education daily. Just because I haven't directed anything or you haven't seen anything I've done doesn't mean I'm not involved in enough to learn.

It's cool man

Only you know if you're doing what you gotta do.

I'd just like to see you get involved someday instead of just talking about it.

yes, and kholi you always have the option of bending the conventions of the genre to the degree that you are comfortable. don't let the fear of being disqualified from prize consideration stop you from telling the story you want to tell.

Please, please, please let this be comedy. And please let us have until July 1st; I'm in school until early June. I've got the short film of a lifetime.

alot of spy flicks are comedies :)

You were pulling for Action

Spy film ? Action ?

Sigh

You're still not making a valid point. And, I didn't complain in this thread about the chosen topic. I said good luck to all. What's all the non-sense? I said I'm not interested in creating anything that has to do with spies.

Why are you riding my tail, John_Hudson?

If you want to make a spy flick, go and do it. I really don't care for spies and have no interest in writing about one. It's just that simple.

i odn't mean to speak for kholi, but i think many saw action as open for possibilities as the drama genre was. it's like the difference between a ComedyFest and a ThreeStoogesFest -- some very specific conventions are implied. either way, i think anyone who is initially put off by the idea of a SpyFest hasn't considered that the option to bend or flatout ignore those conventions exists.

I don't see how anyone can miss the difference between Spy and Action. In every single fest entry we're going to watch, there's going to be a spy.

Everyone who views is going to be looking for a spy, wondering who it is, and it's going to soil the exhibition process completely. With ERIC, it was just a name. With spy? Everyone's going to be microscoping the entire thing wondering "Who is the spy!?"

Really, though. You can't scrub this thread and see a single post of mines that says "this sucks! I quit!"

I said good luck. If anyone's interested in making a spy flick-- comedy, action, romance, whatever... have at it! I applaud you!

yeah. i wanted detective film.

You know we've already been talking about this. Action was an open genre. If someone wanted to create something about a Spy, they could. If someone wanted to concoct a short about a flying school bus that turns into a giant robot and battles evil green teachers from outerspace... they could.

And if Spidey wanted to do something about a Detective, he could.

!
thats very true. hadn't thought about the implication it would have on audience expectations. hmm, i would recommend a disclaimer at the head of your "spy" film that reads: "author reserves the right to tell critics to go f*ck themseves."

LOL Totally

Well Kholi, you don't need DVXUSERfest's as the catalyst to make a film, right ?

-

So go make a poo pooing movie.

Who said I was? I said, much earlier in this thread, that I'd be happy to have an Action Fest diversion. It ain't action fest, I ain't diverted. I'll continue with what I've been doing these past few weeks: hammering out a feature.

And, as I said before, looking forward to the Spy games coming soon.

I'd like to see a comedy sometime over the next year. Have you read the threads around here? I'd love to see what Mark Johnson could do. His wit is wicked. Mark Harris would be good too. Many others I've met as well. (I'd cough up something too, still learnin though). But boy, it would be fun. Other categories I'd like to see, as spectator at least, are documentaries, commercials. Action would be good, but, difficult.

I actually have a spy movie, but it's not really about discovering who the spy is, just more on the life of this one spy-like individual....

who fights off giant robots!
