NEX7 vs GH2

Many are pointing to the flagship A77 but I find the NEX7 more appealing to me. Besides being a GH2 owner I never use it since I'm in a PAL land, were one of the first buyers who didn't thought about 25p when I should, and I'm now after a viable solution for my GH13 companion.

I've surfed a lot trying to collect all sort of info about the new NEX7, but it seems to me that there are none about it's true video capabilities, unless what we can read on paper...

My question is, is someone here like me (looking for 1080 25p) thinking to migrate over Sony NEX7?

Does someone thinks that this camera will somehow be close to the imagery of an FS100 like the GH2 is close to AF101?

havent seen a77 footage yet but if you have and liked it, go for the nex7 since they both have similar sensor.

I've seen some pretty vague samples of the A77 and Nex7 video so far, they do appear comparable to the Nex5n though (and that looks very good).

Between the small size of the Nex7, and the long-awaited manual controls it offers, I'll be getting one as soon as possible. (as much for stills as video - as I never carry my D300 around as it's just too big/heavy)

It'll probably be a bit noisier than the NEX-5n, but if it provides better manuals controls I reckon that should seal the deal.

I guess the image quality in NEX-7, A65 and A77 will be the same; they all look great on paper, but I'm starting to think lots of hiccups may appear when we get the cameras in our hands (cropping in video mode, AF and stabilization only working in auto exposure mode, gamma shifts and exposure changes when you start recording, etc), so I'm definitely in a wait and see mode; anyway, the A77 has weather sealing and in-camera image stabilization, but it is bigger, and more expensive than the NEX-7

nex7 will win this war imo. nex7 despite not yet being released is STILL much easy to get than a gh2
LOL i love my gh2 though.

I'm on a PAL land so for me will be awesome to get 25p if the image is right! But what do you think about one of the original questions? Is this camera to FS100 as GH2 is to AF101?

Impossible to say until we can see more than hastily grabbed snippets of video. But fingers crossed.

Of course the Nex7, A77/65, VG20 will be the same image quality as the 5n and most likely better. Do people really, really, really think that the lowest priced camera is going to perform the best? I don't think Sony is that dumb. These cameras are using the latest imaging technology from one of the biggest technology product suppliers in the world. The techies siting at the million dollar workstations at Sony's R%D hubs are the best of the best. Way more knowledgeable in this matters than all of us put together. If by example they could not get rid of aliasing and moire there has to be a technological reason they have not yet conquered. Not because they just want to leave it there for use to hate. The same with the rolling shutter which they seem to be getting under control. Sony is stepping up to the game big time. From the bottom all the way to 4K.

Hey John, nice to see you around. :)

I think some peeps concern is that the sensor that Sony chose to put in the Nex7 (vs. the Nex5n) has too many pixels to be very effective when it comes to video capture. I'm not saying that it won't be "fine", but I think participating in the "mega-pixel race" has a cost.....and in this case it is likely to be low-light sensitivity, accentuated aliasing, and moire. I'm NOT saying that it will be unusable, but I am saying that those factors make me think that it is LIKELY that the NEX5N will produce (all things equal) superior video than the NEX7. I could be wrong....but I believe that is the core of the concerns. Cheers! See you around!

Again, the guys sitting at the multi-million dollar workstations must be well aware of pixel pumping and I am sure as experts on the matter will try to utilize their genius on the matter to resolve the possible consequences. Because business is counting on that.

BTW, anybody around here have any experience with this cam and how it handles 60 MP?

We are starting to see stills with the NEX 7 and to my eye at 24 MP they look pretty good.

well, I haven't seen any aliasing/moire in the samples so far, but let's just wait and see... @John: that Hasselblad is a medium format that delivers absolutely awesome resolution, but it is very slow: 0.9 fps in burst mode!!

But you haven't seen none on which samples? Photos or Video? The photos are spot on for what I've seen, but I haven't seen any videos yet.

I've attended a Sony workshop on the FS100 yesterday. The image is stunning. I assume that's because of the effective 2MP sensor. No scaling, no line skipping, big sensitivity, low noise. Why don't manufacturers assume that there are many indie filmmakers that don't have the money to buy an FS100 but are willing to spend a 5th of that in a 2MP effective sensor DSLR, even if it takes ridiculous low resolution photos?

Besides that, how many of us DSLR filmmakers use the photo function of our photo cameras anyway? I think I've never shot a single photo with both my GH1 and GH2!!!

3 things that scare me off 5n:

1. Aliasing/moire.
2. Overheating
3. Recording time limit due to #2.

There's little chance that NEX7 will be different in these aspects.
