NEX-VG900 and VG30

Looks like we have VG30 (upgrade to VG20) announcement next week (Sept 12, Wednesday).

And also, just as I predicted, the e-mount FF camcorder VG900 with the same sensor as in A99, despite the fact that self-appointed internet "experts" proclaimed that was technically impossible.

Announcements on Sept 12

There are no full frame e mount lenses though and there may never be any. The camera is really designed to use the Alpha lenses with the bundled adapter. When you use an emount there's a crop mode. I have no other info so it will be interesting to see how that works. Of course all those full frame leica lenses suddenly become even more attractive.

I'd also love to know about the LA-EA3 and how that differs from the EA2.

Stepping back though what an odd choice for sony. Full frame in a consumer camcorder!

I just want my full frame NEX stills camera, then i'm a very happy camper

cheers

As much as I dislike Sony's image sub F65 (slap), very interested in the Full Frame rumor. Would be willing to give Full Frame a shot if someone finally produces a camera that can resolve as much as other popular options that resolve a lot for the price--notice I didn't say what camera(s). xD

Wasn't impressed with the RX-1, as a filmmaker with no need for that kind of cam.

This one actually does interest me.. hopefully they settled on a combination that means a sharper video image than any of the other massive full frame options out there. KNowing Sony, though--and their love for the sharp/digitalish looking image, it bodes well for the first Full Frame video image that actually looks like it's resolving decent detail.

Looking forward to some footage!

This is a problem I see a lot. I don't understand why the companies make 16mp full frame image sensors only to pixel bin, line skip, and/or interpolate down to FHD. Why not make a FHD or 2k full frame image sensor in the first place? It will have far superior low light capabilities as well.

Edit: I should add, I actually do know why they don't do it. Because pixel densities are so low that when you get errors during manufacture, it becomes a much larger issue. They should still take the risk though.

Sony must have a fixation on stuffing full-frame sensors into small spaces this year. A fresh photo and details slipping out to Sony Alpha Rumors show what's billed as the VG900, the first NEX-branded camcorder with a sensor larger than the APS-C spec -- the first NEX camera of any kind, for that matter. While there's only a light smattering of details, we're told the device has a 24-megapixel sensor (likely the same as in the RX1 or A99), records video in AVCHD 2.0 and should ship with an A-mount adapter for Alpha lenses. Not much else is on display, although you may want to take a pass if you're just looking to record a family wedding: at a rumored $3,300 price for the purportedly imminent launch, the VG900 isn't an impulse purchase for anyone short of a pro videographer.

I wonder which quality of sensor will the VG900 have? The FS100 or VG20? By "quality" I mean having little to no moire effects as the FS100 (and good low light) or the moire riddled VG20.

It will have the quality of the A99 most likely. It could be an interesting camera being the first FF sensor packed in a video cam. Sony is really pushing boundaries lately. Lots of launches and packing big boy stuff in small housings. There are just too many cameras rubbernecking me these days!

No lie.
It's been since my college days since I can recall looking at Sony favorably for indie filmmaking purposes.
This is a nice way to get me to start reconsidering.
Looks like I'm going to have to start researching Sony lenses now.
Right off the bat, does anybody have some really good Sony or maybe Minolta? lenses in mind to recommend on this beast?
