NEX + speedbooster + Sigma 18-35mm f1.8?

Hi guys,

I know that the nex Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 is not designed for full frame. I´m guessing this is probably because it won´t cover the entire frame, but do you guys think it would work on a NEX camera with the Metabones Speedbooster? I mean, the NEX sensor APS-C, even if the speedbooster "turns it into a FF". If this works it could be an unbelievable combo. Plus you could use it with the speedbooster for wider shots and then use it with a regular adapter for longer shots.

The 'booster relies on the over large image circle of full frame lenses

This lens is not full frame image circle so unlikely to work without vignetting

of course only actual testing will know how bad this is..

a NEX with a speed booster is just like a full frame camera: you'll have a hard vignette, with the sigma only covering the center of the sensor

That is too bad, it could be an incredible combo.

Why is too bad? The concespt of SpeedBooster is that it allows you to use full-frame lenses that still behave like full-frame on an APSC size sensor (DOF, feild of viiew etc)l This Sigma is NOT a Full-frame lens

It´s too bad because it this lens DID work with the SB you would have 18-35mm f1.3 on your hands.

The 18-35mm F1.8 is a full frame 27-52.5mm with focal reducer element that might work on a m4/3rds with Speed Booster.

I basically use from 24mm to 50mm. I only go over 50mm for nature photography. The point of having the 18-35mm 1.8 would be to have all my favorite fovs with a very fast lens. I would take this lens everywhere instead of taking a 24mm, a 35mm and a 50mm.

You are chasing your tail with this one Timur- smaller chip equals narrower angle of view so what's the point- a little speed?
S35 chip cameras have better sensitivity so it cancels out.
Where the speedbooster shines is converting FF lenses where you don't use the extra coverage for motion -so it's essentially wasted- to wider FOV and faster optics.
You basically are putting the wasted coverage to work for you.
It's a pretty simple concept -why make it complicated?

I don´t why people keep saying that. It´s understood since the first person said. Now other people are saying "too bad" but people are still repeating them selves.
For the sake of ending this discussion, lets just say it you be awesome to have either a 18-35 f1.3, or a 27-50mm f1.3 or even straight up a 27-50mm f1.8 like this lens actually is.

The point is that 18-35mm F1.8 Full-frame lens would be much much larger and more expensive than this Sigma lens which is APSC lens with smaller image circle.

Timur was making the same point. On the Pocket Cam's S16-sized sensor, you're "wasting" the coverage of a lens meant for an APC sensor like the Sigma 18-35, coverage that you might recover with a Speed Booster.

The Sigma 18-35 seems like it'd work very well on the BM Pocket Cam via the upcoming EOS-MFT Speed Booster. That's if the Sigma's mount wouldn't physically interfere with the glass in the SB (which is designed for full frame EF lenses, not EF-S equivalents). I know that Canon EFS lens mounts protrude too far to be used with the EOS-NEX SB.

To note, it would also work with the existing BV1 MFT mount camera, as well. You would have to get a Nikon G Fotodiox adapter to make it work somewhat well, but it would work.

There's plenty of use for the 18-35/1.8 on MFT and BPC's smaller area of coverage, for both speed and DOF if that's what you want.

I'm looking at the lens specifically for my BV1 MFT camera, not to replace my SLR 12/1.6 but to have a variable prime in the range of 12-24/1.2, and an 18-35/1.8 in the same package. That would round out my current personal set seeing as how there's a gap between 12/1.6 and 25/0.95 that I do not want to fill with Voigtlanders.

Anyway, yeah, what Timur and aly said.

Would it not take a s35 fov lens reduce it to make it more compatible with a slightly larger than s16 chip? I don't see the problem.
