...but yeah those shots are all done with a vx1 and rolling on a skateboard... obviously this takes a lot of skateboarding skill.

'A lot of skateboarding skill'?

Like the ability to skate and hold a camera? Sorry; I laughed when I read that.

you have to be a good skateboarder to even be able to roll around over cracks off curbs and ollie up curbs or manuever around **** and not fall over... and then do all that holding a camera while framing a shot and not bouncing the camera all over the place. so yeah you need more skill than just someone who can skate and hold a camera.

try just rolling on a smooth surface and framing a shot. it sets you off balance naturally when your looking through the lens.

and sometimes u have to ride in your unatural stance. say you ride with your left foot in front all the time... some shots are gonna require you to ride the opposite way... that can be difficult to do in itself. then enclude a camera and all that junk

Come on! It's no different than aerial or underwater. These are highly skilled operators, John!

I don't know. I suppose.

I used to skate and film going off of quarter pipes. Now thats a good looking shot. Sides; I was just busting your balls anyway (I'm a former skater)

Anyway; this isn't so much a 'good skater' as it is someone with talent and creativity IMO.

Your style is like this guy's? Then you are going to freak out with the HVX's slow motion capabilities!

Hello,

Just wanted to greet everyone and say thanks for all the info i've found so far here. I just got off the phone with evs and now im on the list...waiting for what the majority of you are.... a hvx200!!!!

I've had several sony vx1000's and used them on a regular basis for skateboard video production. The camera worked great for that but now im finding intrest in subjects outside skateboarding, and i figured i should go with something top quality and after hours of research of everything i could find out there i've decided on the hvx200. the vx1000 is a great camera but it doesnt cut it for the film look i want to achieve.

So yeah im really excited to be apart of this forum to learn and share info with everyone.

Welcome to the gang.. Im pretty new here myself..

I love skateboarding videos. Kona skatepark is just a few miles from me (Jacksonville) and I have toyed with the idea of taking my camera there. (let there be no mistake.....I will NOT be on a board!) haha!!! But there is also an indoor park called SkateLab at the beach here, and they are pretty cool about letting you put yourself at risk to get some shots. heh!

AK- Your stuff is wonderful and the music was great for it! My daughter was doing the dishes down the hall and yelled for me to "turn it up"! Then she came in here and watched your clip twice...cant wait to see more from you. I'd actually like to see some footage of you getting your footage. That would impress.

And welcome!

Terri

hey a.King,
I'm a Skateboardfilmer too, i think you'll like this link->http://www.lensbastard.com/
The Lens Bastard is a lens adapter that allows the fish eye glass from a Mark II to be retro-fit with the .6 wide angle glass for a Panasonic HVX-200 HD camera. A bit cheaper than the ultra fisheye!
