Hi everyone,

I'd known of this forum for a while but having a HV20 from Canon meant I hadnt signed up.

Good news is Ive got an HMC151E (150 basically) so Im here and I have a few dumb newb questions if thats ok.

1) Is it possible to present whitebalance, eg: choosing a kelvin rating or sliding up and down the scale under whats displayed on the LCD matches what you'd like? Something I can do on my Nikon DSLR camera.

2) Is it possible to save a whitebalance so it is available the next time I turn the camera on. I've used AWB but it seems to disappear when the cam is off and on startup a new one is sampled and used.

3) Is it possible to setup an AGC when the camera is in manual mode. I'd love to have the cam figure out if its bright to use 0db and then move up and down the scale similar to auto ISO on DSLRS.

I have spent a few hours reading on here and those were a few of the questions I had.

Many thanks,

Rik

1) is and option that would be very helpful but i'm pretty sure it's not in the camera!
2) when you do a WB it should stay (even after turning the camera on and off)
Does it say something like "AWB A-or-B Ok" after you do white balance???
3) i know you could set GC to manual when you're on Auto Mode, but set AGC on manual mode is not an option (but i'm not 100% sure on this one)

1) I've never found it. I think a pretty safe 'no'
2) Yeah you have a white balance slider right beside gain L/M/H, choices are PRST/A/B. Slide it into A or B and your white balance button (by the lens) will set it. Put it in PRST mode and that same white balance button flips between indoor/outdoor hard-coded kelvin ratings.
3) AGC is a feature for audio level gain, it has nothing to do with brightness. And no, I think the HMC150 doesn't have AGC. Someone else was asking about this a few weeks ago too.

Isn't AGC, Auto Gain Control? (as in light gain) and ALC, Auto Level/Limiter Control? (for audio use)

Hi guys, thanks for taking the time to reply.

I meant automatican video gain when I said AGC, Im still trying to get used to Panasonic's abreviations for things (ATW instead of AWB etc).

Ive had another skim of the manual and had another small question. How do I get exposure contol ?

Say Im shooting and the camera wants to pull in too much light, is there a quick and easy way of dialing in -0.3ev to bring the exposure down (without being in full manual mode, as I'd still want the camera to be running auto iris, just pulling the level down a touch).

I spotted an option in the scene file setup where you could drop the A.IRIS setting but thats a bit complicated to find when you just want to judge a could of buttons while recording if things arent right.

Gotta say the machine is incredible, I was a bit loath to spend the money but I am very impressed so far, and also with this forum.

THanks again and sorry for being a pain :)

Rikki;

I could clearly see you're coming from a canon... It's been a learning curb for me too, since my previous cam was a Sony and a Canon before that one.

I used to use the dial on my old XL1S to adjust + or - on the aperture while sometimes using auto iris. But most of the times i would use that camera on full manual.

I think if you try using the HMC150 on manual exposure is pretty easy... you have two great tools.
Zebras and the WFM (wave form monitor)... You should give it a try!!!

Hey Super,

Yeah the HV20's been an amazing little device, you should see some of the footage its produced but there comes a time in life when you need to remove the stabilisers from the bike and go for it :D
