My 100a is a week old. I've noticed users writing about certain computers or firewire cards not recognizing or working well with the 100A. I have a DELL computer 2.4Ghz w/512SDRAM at 333Mhz, 64MBGeforce4MX graphics card, 80GB 7200RPM Hard Drive.

1) Is there a best choice 1394 card for me to buy?

2) In general, are there things I should do or not do/ buy or not buy to avoid problems download footage from my camera and then editing. I will be getting 'Vegas+DVD very soon.

Thanks

ADS Pyro 1394 cards are supposed to be highly compatible. Whatever you get, make sure it's OHCI compliant.

I use the firewire port on my Sound Blaster Audigy 2 card, with no issues.

If you have more than one firewire port on your computer try them all. I had this problem with my G5 at first when I tried running my firewire from the port on the front of the tower it would not recognize the camera but then I plug it in the rear of the tower and it could see the camera.

..dvx shooter makes a good point here.
just because there is a port on your machine, dosent mean its activated in the machines bios, or recognized by the operating system, or in some cases, it may not even be physically hooked up to the motherboard. its important to check all these things if you find that a port isnt working properly.
