Ok, this is my first "real" camera.. I've been shooting film for about 5 years now, and find it easy to get what I want.. Now I have my new baby (the HVX-200) and I'm finding that there are SO many factors involved in getting a shot to look right....
#1 Exposure..
When something looks good to me on my screen, it sometimes looks to DARK on my HD screen..
If shoot something with the same lighting conditions, and with a different frame rate (60fps) do I expose the same as if it where film (open 1 1/4 stops)???
When I add an ND 3, do I open up 1 stop?
I really want to get this stuff straight, so when I shoot a scene, everything matches...
#2 White Balance
OYE! Love film for it's ease in this matter........
I purchased a set of white/warm cards (coming soon) because I'm going nuts with things looking good "in camera" and a bit "off" on an HDTV.
What do you do when the HVX doesn't have enough light to attain a White Balance? and when the tungsten/daylight modes are do drastic?
#3 Shutter Angle
Same as with ND's and frame rates.. Do I use the same calculations as with film?
#4 Shutter Speed
How do I calculate the stop difference between 1/24th and 1/2000? Besides saying "oh, that looks good"
Here's my thing.. I'd like to be able to take my light meter, set a scene and be able to make sure that everything stays the same when I do my turnaround with different light, shutter, and frame rate..
I want to be able to go at a shot with a 5.6 on her face, but when I turnaround a shot of the other person, I want to add an ND6 and blur the BG.. (example) And I want it to look like nothing has changed..
I know this is something I should take a class for, but what the heck.. Ya'll are pro's and I'd be happy to answer any film questions
Thanks.. Any HELP, tips, examples, books etc.. would be SO MUCH HELP!!
