I am John Brewer, I am 100% new to videography. I was a still photographer before anything. But then again so was Stanley Kubrick. Lol im no Kubrick yet lol. I will be getting my panasonic dvx100b on march 16. I plan on building a jib crane in april, a dolly in may, and filmming by june or july. Im going to start small of course, with some shorts and small film festivals around the Texas area. Working my way up to the Austin Film Festival and the DAFI. I know none of this info is important to you, I just found and registered to this site last night and wanted to say Whats up. Anyone else in here from Texas? Or even better South Texas area? Maybe we could get together and make a movie, 2 cameras is better than one.

on a side note; who would i need to talk to and get permission to shoot a film? What if a gunfight is involved, who would i have to clear it with then?

Welcome. Pretty much every question you have is answered in these hallowed halls. Look around and follow where others have trod.

It's good to see this site has a good response rate. Thanks for the help, I know it either has to be police station or courthouse I will just go to both tomorrow and ask around.

Dear Wretched, Welcome.
As a new member, you'll no doubt want to check out the forum guidelines in the Cafe concerning code of conduct. They are posted at the top in the form of a yellow Sticky and apply to all other forums as well.
Again, Welcome.

Welcome wretched (John). You found the right place to learn about filmmaking. There's some experienced people floating around this forum that you can learn from.

As far as permission goes: If you're shooting on public property then you should check with your township film commision to see what's acceptable with and without a permit. If you're shooting on private property then just having the owners permission is good enough. Now that doesn't mean that you won't be responsible if you F anything up though.
