Newbie questions

Hello everyone, I've been reading and searching this forums for some time and it's been very helpfull so far, there sure are lots of people that know a lot about the hvx, filmmaking and other stuff.

Since I'm pretty new with the hvx, I have some questions that would be great if anyone of you could answer.

1. No offense to HVX extreme fans but the LCD monitor in the hvx is pretty lame, it seems the main weak point, about impossible to focus correctly and I dont even know if it shows the right colors and the right brightness. Is there any way to calibrate it? How do you do it? What is the point in using the scene files and trying to get the kind of image you like if you're not sure that that's what you're going to get?

2. I'm using raylight to edit but its the demo and I dont have the money to buy it. SO, is there any free software out there that will allow me to import the mxf files into vegas? Is there a NLE that doesnt need any kind of software to edit mxf? I think its just avid and edius, right?

3. How safe is it to use a firewire external hdd to copy the mxf files wthout a laptop? Which one would you recommend?

4. Where can I get the Matrox dvcpro50 codec? I got a link in dvfilm.com while reading about raylight but I cant get to download the codec.

I think I have a couple of other questions but those are the ones I could remember.

1) you can calibrate luminance with the internal color bars. Yes the LCD panel is pretty weak.

2) not familiar with Vegas workflow.

3) From what I have heard, USB OTG works well with the HVX. Be sure the HDD is empty as the HVX will wipe it in the format/partition process.

4) not sure familiar with Vegas workflow.

Hope that helps a little.

Jason
