Newbie question from DSLR user on autofocus for F3

Hi guys,

A very quick and newb question - with autofocus on cameras like the F3, does autofocus mean its constantly focussing itself, or is it something you activate like the half press on a dslr shutter? IE if a subject is moving, and you move with him and he goes in and out on the plain of depth, will the autofocus change without intervention?

And, I guess I need a Sony Alpha mount lens if I haven't got a canon electronic mount to autofocus?

Thanks in advance and hello forum!

that's a function of the lens. For example, the 3 lenses that come with the F3K package don't have any auto-focus. The monster Zoom Sony lens 18-270 (or something like that) has autofocus.

and how does that function, by pressing or literally, autofocussing the entire time? Sorry I'm sure it's such an obvious question - so obvious in fact I can't seem to find an answer on google :)

Only the 18-252mm (SCL-Z18X140) Zoom Lens has autofocus on the F3. You can mount PL, Canon and Nikon lenses by the use of adaptors. But as far as I know none of these give you autofocus. The adaptors are mostly 'dumb' ones whitout any contacts or any electronics inside. Electronics would be needed to match the protocols of the AF lens and the F3. Some adaptors let you change the iris on Canon and Nikon lenses, but thats it. Birger showed an adaptor that let you change iris and focus (no auto). But sadly that adaptor is awaited since the existence of the F3.
If you use the SCL-Z18X140 zoom lens, it will autofocus constantly from the moment you switch it on. If you switch it off you can still autofocus by the press of a button. If you release that button, the focuspoint won't change untill you press it again.

...or you can shoot with Scarlet which will support autofocus on some Canon lenses.

Does it work? No idea,, just what I heard.
