newbie question about audio

I don't have my DVX yet, will soon, so I'm learning as much as I can now. The DVX will be a big step up for me. Something that I don't understand is how the audio is captured. Let's say I have a shotgun mic on channel 1 and a wireless mic on channel 2. Does the DVX capture these two tracks on the tape so that when I import the video into Vegas I will have two seperate tracks of audio? Do I need a mixer to do this? ??? Thanks for any help.

Hey there dat5150,

The DVX allows you to record your two tracks of 16bit audio in just about any way you want. A lav and a shotgun. An oncamera and a shotgun. A shotgun to both channels. A mixer is good for a little more control and theoretically using line in on the camera from a mixer will be slightly better, but the DVX has excellent audio when you throw it in right off the mic.

Best,

Everdene

So, if I use both channels they will import as seperate tracks in Vegas? I'm trying to figure out if I can record using the shotgun and wireless and have the ability to use the portions of each audio I want and discard the rest.

Re: newbie question about audio

Yes. When you import into Vegas, you'll have two separate audio tracks and you edit them to put together a mix of your live sound.
