Hopefully I will be getting a Dvx100 (not Dvx100a) soon, so I was looking for some starter tips, like things that I should avoid doing to it, and typical problems with it that I should be aware of.

Also, any tips on how to optimally use the dvx100 to get the best possible film-look would be appreciated.

Good luck finding me some tips :)

Just learn the photographic terms and how shutter speed, aperature, and other factors permit how much light gets in so you can really take control for the image you want. Also you should avoid using this camera as an editng deck. Use a lower end panasonic model (if you go the panasonic route you can use the same batteries  .) The best way to learn about this camera is to just browse these forums and read up as much as you can. Thats what I've done.

Considering my low age (14), my head isn't really able to collect a whole lot of info about the camera and remember it. But yes, I have started reading the user manual and lots of reviews and stuff on the internet, can't wait 'till I get the camera! :cheesy:

and incase it hasnt been said, spend the extra $70 and get barry's book from this site

it will answer just about every common and less common question u can have about the technical side of ur camera (the arty stuff ur gotta find out urself)

Well, I am probably going to buy it from a shop called "2MTV", located in Stavanger, Norway. They do some serious business there, and remember, the dollar course means that the US prices are low to us lucky norwegians! Now it is a DVX100 and not a DVX100a, which costs a whole lot more... anywhoo, I got to try it, saw that the LCD and viewfinder was OK, everything else also seemed to work, so I think I'm going for it as soon as we have sold our family's car=)

(anyone here need a ford focus 2001?) =P

$2869 for a used DVX sounds high. Used DVX100's seem to go for 2100-2200 on eBay, some cheaper, some higher. At $2900, I would spend the extra money and buy a new dvx100a (by the time you factor in book.dvd, rebate, 4 hr battery that comes with a new USA model, It is essentially the same money either way.
