Hello all I would like to start off by introducing myself. My same is Severn and I recently got into video and media production I currently do everything with a Canon Rebel T3i great camera I love the picture but I don't see it at a workhorse camera. That being said I was looking to upgrade to a more purpose-built video camera. I was looking at the Panasonic HMC150 I like how it has the CCD chips over the Cmos and it seems rather similar to the HVX200 which is the first camera I learned on. I was looking around Ebay for used ones to see what kind of deals they have, I was just wondering what is generaly considered a decent amount of logged hours for a used camera? Any help would be greatly apreciated,

Hi Seven11

Once you are off miniDV with video cameras, logged hours don't really come into the equation at all and the HMC150 doesn't have any "wearable" moving parts like a camera that still has tape transport drives. I would just make sure the the lens is undanmaged and also make sure there is no fungal growth inside from damp storage...As long as the camera works OK and has no physical damage it should work pretty much as a new one. I probably log around 300 hours a year on my cameras and they are still A-OK so rather look at any lens or physical defects rather than logged hours.

My pleasure

You also need to take into consideration what you plan to use the camera for!! Will it be on a tripod mostly or a lot of handheld? Is size a factor for you too? The HMC150 is fairly bulky...I think that usage is an important factor ..I was used to the form factor of a shoulder mount camera and when the new AC130's came out I grabbed a pair but they just didn't shoot my style of shooting at all and I dumped them after 3 months. If you really like the DSLR style then you might also consider getting a Lumix GH1 or GH2 ?? Once the firmware is hacked they shoot at nearly double the HMC150's bitrate and they can shoot continuous video with no time limit like the Canons have. A lot of DSLR shooters also like using the HMC40 as a video camera cos it's neat and compact and it matches neatly with DSLR footage.

Get the camera that suits your shooting style.

I was thinking of shooting anything from commercial work to skateboarding and shrt films, So I was looking for a camera that could be used as a decent all-around kind of camera.
