Newbie Help Needed

I have been asked to film a worship seminar for our Church. I have a Sony CX900 and a Sony HC9. I also have an old Sony TRV25 which shoots in mpeg ex, not sure what that is. The auditorium seats approx. 500 but only about 50 will be in attendance, so I can get fairly close to the presenters. There will be 3 musicians and one lead singer who will be moving around the platform. I will be recording the audio from the sound board to a Tascam 60D, in addition to the Tascam, I will be using a Rode VideoMic attached to the CX900. My question is about camera placement and should I use all three cameras. I edit in Sony Vegas 13 but have never used these cameras together. Appreciate any advice you can give. Also, lighting is incandescent. Oh, I will be the only camera operator.
Thanks,
Jim

You have quite a variety of cameras and formats. The CX900 records XAVC to SD cards, the HC9 records HDV to MiniDV tapes, and the TRV25 shoots NTSC to MiniDV tapes. None of those are going to match. The TRV25 is the odd man out, as it's not even HD.

I would keep one camera on the lead singer, and one wide on the whole band. If you have another operator, then one camera should do tight follow, and the other should flip between wide and band member closeups.

If you are going to lock off the TRV despite being SD and not HD, you may want to check the settings and see if it has a 16x19 setting in the menus. I know some of the older SD Sony handicams did have that and it may help towards making it more useful. Good luck!

Depending on where you are located, I'd recommend just renting a camera (C100 and such) for a day.

(if you can't rent, surely someone among the church members have something a little newer).
