Newbie Has Question

Hi all, I'm an experienced "news" cameraman and have been asked to shoot some real estate videos. Oddly enough, with 25 years in broadcast, some of the newer technology leaves me a bit confused. I have a friends HPX 170. The real estate videos are pretty much shooting homes... interior/exterior, beauty shots, I'll use a slider and a crane. But should I shoot 24p? I want them to look the best possible and very artsy. Thanks all... i'm enjoying the site and who said...."you can't teach an old dog new tricks"? Any help would be appreciated.

ABSO-FN-LUTLEYYY!! ha ha, All kidding aside, yes I would shoot at 24p. I'm guessing this will be mostly for the internet. Just keep in mind, pans should be about 7seconds from one side of the frame to the other. Otherwise you get a choppy strobe effect in 24p. Just move slow, great thing about that cam is you can overcrank for slow mo, which I would be using for the majority of the shots, it just seems to show much better for this type of shoot. If you do use slow motion, keep your shutter speed above 100, I prefer closer to 200. good luckman,

the thing though, about real estate videos is the 24p look tends to result in what i like to call "emotional separation" where the viewer is WATCHING the footage rather than feeling part of it.

for lack of a more tangible explanation. 24p is supposed to look like "film" and 60i looks like "news video". one is not by definition "better" than the other. it depends on the goal and setting of the job. using the HGTV/DIY channels as an example. the "crashers" series has the video look and i find them more engaging. where as shows like property brothers or love it or list it have the 24p film look and it has more of a 3rd party narrative feel. neither is better than the other but the final "vibe" is very much connected to the format/frame rate

Thanks for the quick responses, looks like I'll test shoot some 24 and 60 and show it to the client.. thanks again, any more info would be appreciated.
