Newbie Gh1 Questions

I need a second camera for an upcoming event shoot to go with my HMC150, my T2i won't cut it, I was thinking about a TM700 or a GH1.

The camera needs to have video out and preferably manual audio control though the audio isn't a deal breaker as I will have a master audio track from the sound board recorded to the HMC150 and most importantly rather deep focus, this camera will be fixed on a tripod with no zooming, just an occasional pan of the crowd.

I will be shooting in a school gym so the lighting will be rather bright, I would just like to have the images match up as best as possible.

Can I run the camera off AC instead of the batteries as this is going to be a 6 hour event with only a few breaks or does someone offer a battery grip?

Thanks
Alan

The GH1 will match up with the HMC150 quite nicely and I dare say look better than it in a locked down shot, ecpecially now with the hack. Only issue is speed of pan causing cmos skew.

The pans will be slow rather smooth and slow so I would hope that wouldn't be much of an issue.

Do you know if I can run the camera off of AC instead of battery power?

Yes you can, like most cameras the AC cord has a plastic battery like attachment with the only issue being the battery door is open in a sort of funky position.

GH1 can't do that.

and preferably manual audio control
GH1 can't do that either.

You can get deep focus with the GH1, but you need a lot more light to get it.

From what you describe, there's no question to me at all -- GH1 is the wrong product for that job. TM700 sounds like a better choice, although I've never used one and don't know for sure; I'd say the HMC40 would definitely do all that you need.

Oop. I didn't think about the manual audio control. I never use GH1 audio I always go into a sound devices 702 or sometimes the zoom h4n in a pinch

Thanks Barry, I was thinking about the HMC40 to but we were trying to keep the cost down as this is for a web cast in a remote village so the upload is only going to be at 1MG so I didn't think I could justify the price on an HMC40 but maybe that will be the way to go.

Thanks
Again

doesn't GH1 have live video out with the hack?

correct me if I'm wrong. I'm a noob but my GH1 has an av out digital, and HDMI out and from what I read, with the gh13 hack the video out can be made live

As of yet no. It is on the list to see if possible.
