GH2 Newbie audio question

I just ordered my GH2 and I was wondering if anyone has used the MKE300 with it? Too long etc. I was also wondering if when you plug into the 2.5 jack does it automatically override the camera mics or do you have to change a setting? Thanks.

Have not used that mic with the GH2, but I know for a fact when you plug in an external mic the onboard mics are overridden without having to change anything on the menu...

Thanks for the responses. Yes, it does have a battery. I bought it years ago to use on my TRV900. Haven't used it since I bought my DVX. I was hoping I could bring it out of retirement :)

yes! used the mke300 on the gh2 today. got usable interview audio in a raucous crowd. fine mic for the price.

I've tried my MKE300 on my GH2 and I can't get any sound out of it. It works - I've tried it on my other camcorder, but it won't register on the VU meters like my wireless does with a 2.5 mono male to XLR female adapter. Now I am useing this little cheapy 3.5 to 2.5 stero adapter (is it because it's stereo) If I plug my Iphone 4 headphone mic into the same adapter it it gets sound. Just not that mono MKE into a stero 2.5 adapter into the GH@? Any thoughts? Thanks.

You probably have the wrong kind of adaptor. I am unsure of the details but I know for a fact that there are some kinds that dont work for this kind of mic input.

jweeke, what sort of adapter did you use .? I have a gh2 and an mke300 and a fresh battery and all i need is a 3.5 mono to 2.5 stero adapter? or do I? a link would be awesome

It's probably your mini to sub mini jack adapter who is responsible for your trouble. sometimes the connections for mono and stereo are not at the same place.
You can use a stereo splitter cable like Hosa Technology Stereo Mini Male to 2 MonoMini Female YMM-261 http://goo.gl/7SHzg
Or/and you can get this adapter Hosa Technology GMP-467 - Right Angle Adapter GMP-467 B&H Photo http://goo.gl/6RQyA
They both work great.
The great thing with the splitter, is that you can plug two audio sources. like a wireless plus a camera mic.
