New Zeiss zoom!

Yeah the LWZ is great, but crazy expensive - this looks (to me) like they're moving into zooms for the ZF market, which hopefully means more affordable pricing? We can but dream!

Yes, but look at the image - this isn't a CP2 style cine zoom. This is very much a ZF style stills zoom. I'd have to have my head up my arse to think I could get a cine zoom for 3k (I should clarify - 3K GBP, so say 4k USD) but last time I looked I could see daylight, so I think 3-4k for a great Zeiss DSLR zoom isn't unreasonable given that their dslr primes are around $1500.

Zeiss already makes some SLR zooms in Sony Alpha mount. They make some cheapo zoom and a couple of really quite nice zooms. Problem with them is they're autofocus and have a terribly short focus throw. But from the reviews I've read, their image clarity is right up there with what you'd expect from a zoom version of ZF glass. And those zooms cost about $1600 or so. So if they fully gave that glass a proper mechanical housing such as what we expect from the ZF line, I don't see why expecting them to clock in at $2k would be unreasonable?
