New Zealand workshop?

Barry, I was wondering if, as you will be over in New Zealand for these workshops, will you be coming over for any dates in Australia?

Will this be similar to the bootcamp that you are running in Hawaii?

I don't have a definite answer on Australia yet. I'm trying to work something out, but cannot comment as of yet.

And as vidled pointed out, this isn't the bootcamp -- BootCamps feature four instructors. Some of the info will be similar, of course, but the BootCamp is a bigger multi-instructor event.

Hawaii has been pushed back until October.

I'd like to attend but if you are coming out to Aus then it would save the airfare. Being that it's on at the end of June early July it doesn't leave me much time to procrastinate. If you do manage to organize a trip to Aus would you mind informing the board. I doubt if i'm the only one that would like to attend, you would think it would be better attended here over NZ if only due to the larger population?

Thanks.

By the way, I would like to state how GREAT Panasonic NZ really is. These folks are simply AMAZING, and willing to help out in fantastic ways.
Hi Vidled.

Do you live in NZ? If so what is the availability of the HVX over there and the price in NZ dollars? I bought my very first DV camera (VX1000) from DVT in NZ, I still have it somewhere.

Thanks.

Did, and will do again one day. In Pennsylvania for the time being.

Funny you ask, as I was wondering the same thing. I have all PAL equipment so am also in the market for a PAL HVX. Will probably be back in NZ for a while within a few months, so I am wondering if Panasonic NZ, as part of their apparent HVX promotion, has some kind of a winter special, a la "Barry G. in NZ Discount"?
'cause I might just pick it up there if so.

Quickly about why in NZ and not Aus: I reckon it comes from within Pana NZ inviting Barry to do this. You might want to let Pana Aus know you want The Barry there too!!! :)
They really are a great company, Pana NZ: they helped us out BIG TIME, when we had a film festival there back in 2004; they provided an AWESOME projector for free. I was concerned about the bulb blowing during the film festival, so they simply threw in an extra bulb!! I can't praise them enough!!!

Thanks for the info.

As a certified kiwi, which of the three locations would you recommend to attend as a first time traveller to NZ?

Well, first of you have to understand that Barry will only be in NZ for TWO workshops. The first one is in Auckland! :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Wanaka, baby!!! Hands down.
(And spend an extra couple'o'days on the slopes!)

It says on the site...

Auckland - 29 & 30th June 2006
Wellington - 4 July 2006
Wanaka - 6 July 2006

Is Barry not at all of those?

Indeed he is, however; only Wellington and Wanaka are in New Zealand. Auckland is really a different country all by itself - if it weren't for the Int. Airport, I'd avoid it alltogether.
(Apologies to all Aucklanders! :))

Ah...
I see...
Um...
Yes...
Well...
What can I say to that?:)

Hey all,

The HVX is in good supply over here, sales are apparently going well. Price in NZ dollars was $8600nz or $12500 wth 2 8gb cards tho it may now have risen as the kiwi dollar fell heavily against overseas currencies since then (making imports more expensive).

Barry, Im looking forward to the Wanaka course hugely, hope you have an eye for scenery and a pair of skis as Winter has hit early this year and the South Island just looks incredible under a blanket of snow.

Hey Richard, thanks for the info. Any recommendations when it comes to where to purchase HVX from? Also are you guys running the same model as in Aus - HVX-202en?

Hey Peter, Yes it is the 202en.

Well, Im not going to recommend the place I purchased from. A2V in Auckland. They promised me free shipping and then told me that they weren't willing to pay the extra bucks for overnight delivery because margins were tight. I was understanding about it, but three days later it wasn't delivered. I had a shoot lined up and needed the camera, (which they knew) and it never arrived. I had to fork out an extra $350.00 bucks to hire a camera because mine wasn't delivered. It arrived EIGHT days after I purchased it. Trouble with the courier company. They saved $50, I was out of pocket $350. They made no effort at all to make good that loss (didn't even respond to my emails) so itll be the last business they get from me. My $10,000 investment in P2 and HDD is going elsewhere.

Both Protel and DVT in Wellington have websites with prices, they are the big boys really. I'm going to use my small local reseller for future purchases tho, A2V in Christchurch.

Hey there Kiwis.

I just arrived from Auckland last night, sat down to my computer and was surprised to see this thread. We just spent two weeks driving around north island and shot some of the most amazing footage with my HVX, MacBook and a couple of hard drives to store it all on. I am now very keen to move from L.A. to NZ and am looking for any info on the job market there as a owner/operator/editor/producer. Please email me if you can provide details or advice. California is too crowded for me anymore and I absolutely love your country.

thanks,
Tom
