New Zaxcom Nomad, and it won't break the bank

Good idea, but, although Zaxcom's digital engineering and ergonomics always seem to be excellent - their analogue technology seems to lag way behind IMHO. I would use an SD for the quality of their analogue circuits alone.

I personally don't get all the drooling over this one.
Maybe for a replacement for the 744, but by the time you get a nomad with 12 tracks of recording you're at the cost of a
SD788T/CL8 combo, which is from a company that has a bit more experience with building mixers for the ENG/EFP -harsh environment market.

I don't know how you could guarantee that Oleg when neither you or I have seen the Nomad in a working environment yet.

i cant guaranty it, but my Deva stands all of that :-), and Nomad is just the Deva with less features , low rate dsp or maybe not , since it also makes auto mix , but doesn't have eq;-), not to mention, that there is no touchscreen which is the only part on Deva which ever made me trouble ..very low power consumption ,max 10w or less), guaranty you less heat.
and sorry , who is you where talking about ?:-)

I think it would be a great tool for ENG shoot. It's like an all in one mixer /recorder. It will make my life easier for mixing and backingup audio in the same box. Looking forward to testing it. If I am not mistaken, the IFB system can send audio out, easy for a producer or director to hear the audio as well.

Just and FYI, it was not my intent to start a Nomad vs. Sound Devices thing here. I just finally saw it, at the price point, and thought some people on here might be interested in it. SD has a new video/audio recorder that they have at the show along with the new MixPre-D (which we have in the K-Tek booth on our Norbert rig). I haven't had any hands on time with the video/audio recorder they have. I haven't had any hands on time with Nomad. The price point on Nomad is what really surprised me. I don't know when it is going to ship. Zaxcom has several units in their booth, and from what people have told me, they are real working units. I had so little time when I went to their booth, I just stopped by to say hi to the Zaxcom folks since I know them very well from my Coffey Sound days. We've been really busy in the K-Tek booth. We won two awards so far for our new Norbert Sport, and we are excited about that. The cool thing is that there is something new that can do a lot of what people have been asking for.

Another cool thing, completely unrelated to audio....GoPro, which has their booth really close to ours, has a new 3D system that uses two of their cameras. I saw some of the footage, and it was absolutely stunning. It was the first time I've seen something in 3D and went "wow. finally something worth seeing in 3D".

I've ordered a Nomad 4, and I hope to review it once I get it! Current scheduled date is "by August 1st"

I know they've shipped 20 units. It's a slow roll out. More units are on the way soon, but I don't know how "soon" soon is.

I think it's worth mentioning that MANY of its "selling point" features do not work at this point
and because they don't work at this point that also means these features have not been tested in the field to guarantee they will ever
work in the way that it's being sold to customers.
Perhaps everything will be perfect on these units down the road but all buyers should be aware of these kinds of things.
