"New York Types" from New York Writes Itself

This is a short promo doc I DP'd and shot recently. The majority of the footage was shot with the AF100 to a KiProMini, including the medium & wide interview shots along with all of the b roll. The very tight interview shots were with a EX1 as I was using two cameras. There are five random quick shots in the piece that were filmed by someone else with a 5 or 7d, I'll let you guys guess which those are.

The majority of the AF footage was shot with the Olympus 14-35 f/2 and the couple long shots with a Nikkor 80-200 f/2.8. I shot the time lapses on a 5D with various Nikon lenses.

Hope you like it.

I kind of like it and I like the concept but I would like to see it a bit more "gritty and edgy" (New York, New York, art, energy ....)

You have got the shots, albeit a bit static, but you could pump up the cc/grade and chop it a bit more dynamically.

Overlay some type and graphics and street shots to make it move for example

Love the graphics ( good fit with "type")

Thanks Shooter.. Yeah, I didnt direct, cut or grade it so it was pretty much out of my hands but points taken. We had a lot of great footage of the letterpress process itself that I would of liked to have seen more of but what can ya do. To their credit they cut and graded it in two days and had to deal with a ton of two cam interview footage.

I guess I'd like to see more gritty street stuff, too. But I hear ya that it wasn't your call.

But your stuff looks gorgeous, Bill- Love the shot at 4:24, the poster with window light!

And I kept waiting to see if the guy on the left in the 2 shot was going to speak... ;^)

Cool project to be a part of- I remember your previous NY installment (on Youtube?).
