New York Pizza on the 5D

I am wrapping up a series of testimonials for Grande Cheese. We shot at 4 restaurants in the New York area and used the 5D. This was filmed before the firmware update and we had to jump through the hoops but I think the footage looks great. I break down more of the details on my site and have posted two of the videos.

Nicely done. The subtle dollies worked well. Time lapses were effective at further heightening the mood of the spots too.

Overall, I enjoyed the look and tone of the first promo better (Krispy Pizza), but I felt that the second example (Porto Bello) better promoted Grande. From past experience I know that Grande makes cheese, but I'm not sure that I would've realized that from just watching the first spot.

So, are you still craving east coast pizza?

I am with you Eximious. I really like how the Krispy video turned out. That was the third day of the shoot and we really had it together. Grande is pretty happy with all of them.

Man that pizza was so good and we had an unlimited supply each day. Not quite the same in California. I do hear that there is a lot of Grande in Florida.

Exquisitely shot and edited. I do agree though that the first one seems to be more about Krispy Pizza then about Grande. If the client likes it that's what matters most though!

Hey Squig, Sydney may be a stretch for that little delivery truck. Thanks for watching.

NoxNoctus, Grande actually liked the Krispy one better. More of a story than infomercial.

ESTEBEVERDE, we used Nikon lenses. I think we had the 17-35 2.8, 50 1.8, and 85 1.4.

Thanks for everyone that has watched and all the kind words. It has been a fun project.

I really enjoyed both of these. I worked in a pizza shop for 10 years and always loved Grande cheese.

I thought the music choice was excellent. Was it stock music or composed specifically for the spots?

was the footage converted to 24p?
I tried to convert the footage via Compressor but I didn't like the results. I got some weird things happening with there was a lot of motion. I didn't mind the 30p that much on these. We tried to keep the shutter at 1/60 as much as possible.

I do think Vimeo does a conversion when you upload it and it makes it a bit choppy. If you download the file, you should be able to see what the 30 looks like.

Grande is really good stuff. Thanks for the praise on the music. Picking music is always the hardest thing. It is stock and I went through thousands of tracks.

Any problems w audio sync? Did you have to slow the audio down by 99%?

Audio was pretty easy. It was slowed down to 99.9% and that did the trick. I did a hand clap in frame and synced up the audio skip on my Final Cut Timeline.

I think Neoscene does some sort of conversion to help with audio when converting to the Cineform codec but I haven't figured it out yet.
