New WIP

disjecta

Lucky Duck
Here's something I'm working on that's in its very early stages. It's along the lines of Water's Edge (big surprise).

There's still a lot of work to do and some of these shots will be replaced eventually and it still needs some color correction etc., etc. It's about 1 minute 40 seconds long.

Guys, go easy on my poor server, right click and download the file to your hard drive. My ISP called me up late the other night complaining that Water's Edge had been downloaded 1000 times in October and was crippling them!

Anyway, enjoy it. It's a kind of fall theme.

EDIT: File has been removed, follow this thread to the new file:
http://www.dvxuser.com/cgi-bin/DVX2/YaBB.pl?board=Clips;action=display;num=1101176760;start=0#0

Download and remove the "x"

By the way, the opening shot was done by just tilting the camera on one leg of the tripod....a cheap trick, no crane needed :D

One temporary solution is to change the extension of your file to something like ".movx". Then when someone selects the link to the file the extension will not be recognized and the download dialog will appear. In the download dialog the person may remove the "x" on the extension or do so after the file is downloaded.

That's funny that your ISP called you up to cry about your video hurting their bandwidth... What? Are they a one person operation with a few servers in their closet? :D

[edit] Ok, just downloaded your video... oh so nice! So, what is going on with those opening leaf shots? Is that a fisheye lens shot? Had to watch that a couple of times. Cool effect.

Re: New WIP

Okay, not a bad idea...I'll try it :)

The guy was being facetious of course, but it means that I get charged for every mb I go over my quota and it's currently 1GB :D

Re: New WIP

d man

This is the best one I have seen from you yet.  Bella! Bella!

Honestly, wonderful work.  So pleasing and relaxing.  The opening shot is killer!  Im gonna steal that, er, cough cough, appropriate and pay homage too!

Seriously kick ass.  LOVE IT

IS this all 'incamera' ? :o

Re: New WIP

Hans, no fisheye, just the stock lens on the camera. It's the movement that causes that effect...it is pretty cool I must admit. Sometimes I just can't be bothered dragging all the crane stuff out and this worked fine with the tripod :D

Re: New WIP

John thanks,

All of this is in camera, the only thing I adjusted in my NLE was some levels.

Based on reading Barry's book, I am now using the Enriched Matrix and it gives off some really beautiful colors towards the red side.

Funny enough, one of the things I use most as an aid for viewing potential shots are my sunglasses. The glass has a reddish tint and all colors just pop for me (talk about seeing the world through rose-colored glasses)...anyway the Enriched setting really does something wonderful with the colors. I just started to use it so the leaf shots at the beginning have that setting.

Re: New WIP

Nice Mr Disjecta!

You inspire brotha! I love the sceneary. Beautiful! Yes the open looked very nice. Good ol simply tilt the tripod method. Hollywood would of used their thousand dollar cranes to get a shot like that. Good Work man.

Re: New WIP

Great work Barry. Have you noticed less noise than normal with the colors pumped up?

This is just standard 4:3 right? Are you planning on cropping to scope?

Re: New WIP

Shaw, just a correction up front, my name is Steven not Barry :D

Less noise than the cinematrix by a long shot. This was shot in letterbox mode. When I've done the basic edit I'm going to uprez to widescreen and then maybe crop to scope, not sure yet.

(thanks Bluespider :D )

Well, that's what you get when you upload something totally awesome. I love your stuff and I love this latest clip. One piece of constructive criticism is that I think the first shot of rolling clouds in amazingly gorgeous, but the second time it made me think "been there, seen that." Maybe if you switched them because the 2nd one is so much more beautiful (in my opinion).

What kind of post work did you do to this? What did you color correct with and did you use your uprezz technique using PhotoZoom Pro? Didn't seem like it. If not, are you planning to?

Love the pseudo crane shot.

edit: Just watched the crane shot again. OMG I love that. It's awesome.

Re: New WIP

Good observation about the clouds. That's a total filler until I get a different shot. There will only be one cloud timelapse shot in the final.

I seriously didn't do any kind of color correction aside from enhancing the black levels somewhat. I'm planning on doing some minor correction towards the end of the edit.

As is, it is not uprezzed, just letterbox from the camera at 4x3 but cropped for this Web version.

Just to clarify on the timelapse shots, they were all shot in real time and then sped up in post.

Re: New WIP

Nice work of course!

Does the DVX100 have the 'Enriched' setting, or only the DVX100a?

And where is the 'Disjecta' setting on this camera?

LMAO :D

I believe the Enriched setting maybe a 100A-only setting.

Re: New WIP

Disjecta, I'm a newbie poster and a long time watcher, and I must say your stuff always inspires. This one is no different. The Water's Edge (I believe it was) absolutely floored me when it came to seeing the quality of the DVX when I was looking to purchase one... so major props for some great looking stuff. The opening shot is killer!

Ha!!! I'm with you there. I have a pair of Rudy Project sunglasses that I can switch lenses. My favorite are the "Racing Red" lenses. I'll be wearing them and see an awesome view. But taking them off the view changes significantly. All the colors wash out and the sky looks bland. Makes me realize how important a filter can be for some shots. And, wearing them all of the time makes the world that much more amazing! 8)

Oh geeze! I am officially an idiot. While I didn't know your name was Steven I did know it wasn't Barry! Sorry about that! Must be due to the many threads about Barrys book running around here lately :-X

Anyway, definitely very cool. Let us know if/when you get a scope version up :)

Re: New WIP

Hayden, btw, I just switched out one of the timelapse shots for a Survivor-style whiplash shot of the big tree in my yard :D

Re: New WIP

Hey Disjecta, awsome stuff as usual. I just signed up with these guys so far so good and cheep too. The are claiming 5gb per day download. check em out. Now I've got a place to upload just waiting for my domain name to clear :)
