I wasn't going to post this and bore you all with yet another wedding short but I thought, stuff it.

This is prolly my best wedding gig yet and I really wanted to show off some of my blown out shots in this one, so you could see how if used in the right context, blowing out shots can be really flattering.

Edited in Corel Pro X2 and CC'd and exported in Edius Broadcast. Shot in 25p squeeze. 1/25th and 1/50th shutter speeds. I didn't run any high shutter in this gig. I was after a nice filmy look with a bit of motion blur.

Wow, I thought that this was beautiful. Very Moving. I bet that the bride and groom are very VERY happy with this.

Maybe you could PM me and give me some advice on Weddings?

Thanks

very well done. i agree on blowing out shots, it can look very unprofesional if done incorrectly but you did a damn good job.

Hi shaun, very nice job as every times, i like your artistics eyes.
Is it possible to receive the settings u used?

Thanks heaps Rick, Ryan and Pad. I'll try and dig out my scene file for this, it won't mean much cause this was pretty well CC'd in Edius.

Wow, that was Beautiful!
it felt like a really big production wedding video but did you do all that by yourself?
that's really great if it is!

about the color.....I'm not sure if I've seen anything like this before.
I usually like more colorfull looks or that dreamy look you always see.

Yup, some dolly shots, some glidecam shots and handheld. Color has been de saturated a bit, I had -7 on the chroma setting in my scenfile and I also played with the contrast and hue levels in Edius.

Glad you enjoyed it

Very well done, wow.

Did you use a polarizer, or grad filter to get the nice blue and detail in the sky shots?

thanks,
Derrick

Very nice! Are you doing any slow motion in the video? If so, how do you make it look so good shooting from 25p?

Gorgeous Shaun!
Especially the backlit cake/sun flare and the roses/groom against the window.
Blowing it out to make it a "white" wedding!
Well done!
Chuck

Thanks Derrick,,, no polariser used, the only filter on the glass of my DVX is a cheapo Hoya UV. Honestly, everytime I have shot on a real bright clear sunny day the sky is so blue in my shots it blows me away. I run low master ped and play with contrast and hue but its still not all that much different to the raw footy.

Thanks Commalot, and JonJon, I can't explain why the slomo is as good as it is,,, by all means its useable but not great,,, if there is any camera movement you'll get huge judder and strobing so I try and only slomo shots where the subject is moving and the camera is still with no pans etc.

Grove chuck, welcome back mate, haven't seen you around.
Thanks on your comments. Those shots you are referring to were shot on a dolly and I practiced and played with the Iris to get a nice blown out effect. It was a real short notice wedding so I was totally unprepared. I had less than a weeks notice!

We were totally blind going into this one, we had no idea of locations we'd be at, no preparations for the ceremony in the Church, we had no idea on lighting,, we bascially rocked up at the Church with 15mins to spare b4 the bride came, setup lightning fast, had flat batteries in the wireless lavs with no spares, everything that could go wrongs went wrong. But you know what?,,,,, we got the best shots ever and the couple are totally amazed with the results. I'm going to need to do a bit of audio work on the ceremony because we only had the Rode NTG-2 mounted on a stand in the Alter so levels between the celebrant, bride and groom are all over the shop but my friend who is a producer / audio technician will fix it all up and get rid of any unwanted noise. The couple not need no this, they've seen themselves in the trailer and and real excited.

Thanks again everyone.
Thanks to Joshua Smith, he's my idol and mentor!

Hey Shaun,
On the blown out window shots, did you use zebra on the windows, or just expose for the cake and groom?
And when do you get your dolly shots???
Is the -7 chroma your only scene file change?
So you keep your scene files as is, then use CC for the look you're going for at each location?
Still using Magic Bullet?
Good luck with the sound! My last dead lav battery experience was at MY wedding a month ago.
Oops! It became a "test" of the NTG-2 mounted on cam lock down shot at the rear, 30 feet back.
Not horrible, but glad we're the "clients", and cared more about the stills!
Cheers mate!

Hey Chuck,
Blown out window shots were exposed for cake and couple, locked iris. These were dolly shots.

I haven't used my camera since then so I must check the scene file I used in detail and post it for you.

I shot the whole day with 1 scenefile, if I need something different I will CC in post.

No more Magic Bullet for now, I bought a copy of Edius cheap of a mate so i'm learning that now and have used that for CC on most of my recent work.

Scenefile.

detail lvl -3
v dtl lvl -1
dtl coring +2
chroma lvl -7
chroma phase -7
color temp -4
mast ped -13
iris lvl 0
gamma normal
knee low
matrix cinelike
skin tone dtl off
v dtl freq thin
progressive 25p

Then a bit of tweaking with colors in Edius, not sure exactly what I did but added a tint of yellow and slight green.

Cheers mate

EDIT
BTW the audio from the rode is pretty darn good, it was not more than 8 feet away from anyone that ever spoke during the ceremony, it just needs a bit of tidying up and levels sorted out. All in all i'm happy but obviously still pissed that my Azden wireless wasn't used, but hey dems the breaks, I've got plenty of spare batteries now!!!
