New v3 Parallax technology

Hey guys,

Spec-Comm is really excited about this new technology. We partnered with v3 immediately after seeing the AX3 and what it can do. Check out the links below to learn more. I would actually like to start a thread about discussing this technology and perhaps have it turn into a manufactures section if it catches on.

The AX3 systems are in stock and ready to ship. :)

I'd like to view some examples...I don't want to install software to do it. Will the end product of this technology require viewers to have a proprietary codec to see the effect?
That would be a flaming hoop very few casual viewers will want to jump through.

That's the coolest part about this. The "effect" is done on the optical side. It's a part of a 2/3" lens. You record on your HPX500 (for example) like you normally would.

The AX3 system has a rotating iris providing multiple fields of view to the CCD sensors. This adds much more dimension and realism in the picture and you don't have to have special glasses or anything. The only think you need is the lens attached to your camera.

There are some HD example on the v3 website.

Let me know what you think.

I'll try again....will all the end users/viewers have to sign a v3 agreement and or install viewer software?

The V3 stuff is cool but it looks like the image is wobbling or shaking slightly. I guess this is part of how it works and is unavoidable?

The agreement is only for the demo videos and there is no special software for viewing. The way they set up the HD videos you have to use the particular players that they made it available for. However, you aren't forced to do this just to view the files. You can watch some SD versions (Not as impressive) here:

Generally the "wobbling" is avoided by keeping the camera in movement. When the camera is shoulder mounted, on a steady cam or moving in anyway, you won't see the wobbling. Also, when you see the wobbling in the example, it's because the AX3 is set to it maximum setting. You can set up presets or just adjust the thumb wheel to set the speed to the point in your shoot that will minimize the "wobble" effect and at the same time provide the parallax imaging.

I've demo'd this technology, since they are a local company, and it is AMAZING the depth this moving focal point optical adapter gives you. I look forward to working with it more.

Matt -

Any examples from your HPX500/lens setup you'd like to share?

Andrew -

Are you going to offer it with any Fujinon lenses?

The tea party footage looks amazing. I'd like to see how well it would work with the 500. Any idea what the impact would be on green screen footage?

Yes. The AX3 system currently supports the HA18x7.6BERM, HA22x7.3BERM, HA23x7.6ERM-M from Fujinon. If you would like pricing I would have to put that together for you.

The only thing that would have to be done for a green screen shoot would be to make sure that your lighting of the subject on there head and shoulders to be even since your getting multiple fields of view. It would also be recommended that the camera not be static when shooting.

I'll see if I can get some HPX500 footage for you. Keep this in mind, footage from the 500 will look just like the 500 but will add enhanced depth, texture and realism.

These guys need to get rid of the .exe files on their site, just post up the video and skip the zipping.

The 3D effect looks nice, but I think it would be difficult to do a whole movie without holding the camera still even once.

And you wouldn't be expected to. If you turn the AX3 off, it still looks like your camera. That's what is so great about it. When a scene comes up that you have to lock the camera down, you turn the speed way down or just turn the unit off. :)

v3 website

v3 website

Hello:

I noticed that Andrew Hoffman inadvertently posted the wrong URL address for the v3 parallax scanning website. The one Andrew posted takes you to the older portion of the v3 site. The correct URL is:

www.inv3.com

I was wondering why people were referencing v3 exe files. Then I realized where where you going. Try the new URL above. The example downloads there are mp4 files. They should work better for you. Thank you for your interest in v3. Take care.

Chris

I was talking to Chris and green screen shooting is much easier with the AX3 than I thought. Where you see the movement on a scene is in the background. Since the background is solid green, you won't see any movement at all so in this case you set your AX3 to the maximum setting allowing the most realism on the subject without sacrificing the still background AND you can lock your camera down.

BTW, Thanks Chris for keeping my links straight!
