New user Clip

Greetings!

I recieved my DVX100 2 months ago and have just slapped some dailies together into a pretty short "trailer". It's ghost story about a local milwaukee haunt.

I've seen some pretty terrific stuff on here and would appreciate any feedback or comments.

Sorry...the trailer does very little to tell what the story is about...We've only shot 3 times.

A friend lent me space on his server until I get mine up and running so if the bandwidth starts to run out...I'll have to pull it.

Re: New user Clip

Downloading now, I'll edit my post when it's done :)

EDIT: I thought it was pretty good. I'm not sure if you were aiming for it to look like video, like Blair Witch, but it looks rather video-ish. Now if it was supposed to be a documentary styled thing that this next comment isn't as relevant, but I'd try and used the camera on a tripod more often.

I liked some of the colour correction you did (Magic Bullet?). Anyway, I'm sure the other members who are experienced with the DVX will be able to help you out. Keep on shooting, you can only get better. ;D

Re: New user Clip

thanks.

Yes...I shot 60i. I was using a VX2100 as well and wasn't sure how the 24p and 60i would look mixed. I'll be shooting 24p from now on.

Well...the glidecam came a week ago and seems to have taken care of the problems...but it's absolutly supposed to look mock/documentry. I'm not shooting for an oscar...(yet ;D)

Thanks for the advice.

Not magic bullet, used vegas filters to get as close to the "magic bullet look" as possible. I can't stand the long renders.

Re: New user Clip

Oh ok, well year, seeing as you ARE going for the mockumentary look, its good. You've done a good job using the Vegas filters to emulate Magic Bullet, I was fooled.

And I agree with John, those exteriors are pretty damn creepy

Re: New user Clip

that was not bad. I'm intrested to see the whole movie. It did have that blair witch feel but I'm intrested to see what this movie about.

Re: New user Clip

Nice temp sound track. It's amazing what good sound effects will do. It totally heightens the effect.

Re: New user Clip

Yes. The 60i was leaping out at me. The EXT shots of the structures are freaky.

Yeah, not gonna be using the VX anymore. Is there a way to match 60i to 24p? I'd be interested if anyone has any thoughts.

Heh...temp tracks are from a mix of movie trailers. Dark Water / Darkness / white noise / the boogyman.

Re: New user Clip

..this was kinda neat. certainly interesting. the magic bullet was way overused and the effects were sort of overdone IMHO, but it did bring about a sort of etheareal feel to it in the end. looking forward to seeing what you continue to do ;)

Re: New user Clip

Yeah, you should throw that VX out on your next garbage day. Please PM me with your address a couple days in advance of doing so, along with the time Waste Management usually shows up - thanks!

BTW - You have some nice skills there.

Re: New user Clip

The "video look" didn't bother me because the main character is using a camcorder in the teaser. Consider it POV. I liked it alot. Visually it was impressive and perfect for the type of project. Although, I would include a few "real life" shots that are not color corrected or magic bulleted. This will give a more haunting feel because it's set in the "real world." Right now it feels like it's in another time and place. Make it feel like it's in our own backyard and you'll creep us all out.

LMAO...I should have said I wont be shooting with it on "this project" anymore. The camera itself still has it's merits.

Well said. The film should clock in at roughly :45 min. The majority of which will not be dream/horror sequences. However...even those may look overprocessed. Ah well...can't blame a guy for having fun with filters! I'll try reigning them in a little and see how that looks.

Thanks everyone for your comments and critiques! I'm new to this so any advice is welcome.
