Hi to all,
I need to buy a new tripod for my FS100. At the moment I don't use external monitor and other equipment, but in the future I plan to do so. My budget is more or less €1000. Which is the best tripod for my needs? I really need your precious advices.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

I use a Sachtler FSB6 on standard aluminium legs and I am happy with it.
Very light and nice solution.

If you plan to upgrade to a big rig with monitor, v-mounts and so on, the FSB6 might
be to small.

The standard aluminium legs are not the nicest, but cheap and light and set up quickly.
I think I'll upgrade to better legs in future...

A tripod is a very personal decision. I have a vision Blue, which is a great tripod, but it's too heavy for run and gun work (at least where a lot of walking is required). I bouight a Benro carbon fiber tripod with a S6 head for street photography. I may purchase an even lighter tripod as a true "travel tripod." Of course, if you do all of your work in a studio, none of this matters much. As you probably understand, good tripods have a counterbalance system matched to the weight of the camera. Ideally if you tilt the camera down at a 45 degree angle and let go of it, nothing should happen. It should stay where it is.

Given that you may have different payloads, some tripods have a way to set for different counterbalance weights.

Unfortunately the fsb6 is out of my budget, so I was pondering on fsb4 instead. Someone also mentioned to me the Vinten Vision Blue and Libec RS-250. What are your thoughts about?

As long as it has the snap release plate that allows you to put the camera over the tripod and drop it right down into it and not the sliding baseplate that the newer Sachtler Ace tripods have. Tripods that can only be docked by sliding in back to front, you should avoid as they are a huge headache. Especially if your camera system has rods and items in the front that would be in the way. I hate the new Sachtler Ace design and I spoke to someone there at (well, now it's Vitec Group). He admitted the new design is flawed and there was internal debate about it but the bogen style sliding base plate won out. Probably due to cost factors. Ugh.

Thanks, but all the FSB heads on the sachtler site are sideloaded. The Ace has a Ace Plate, Touch & Go 35 camera fitting and all the FSB heads have a SideloadS fitting (even if in their promotional videos all fsb heads are said to have both fittings).

Can you confirm this infos?

I just bought the new Benro C3770TN tripod and H8 head. It was really cheap and looks pretty good. Reviews on the tripod seem very good. The head is new so I couldn't find any. The strange deal is I had to order it from Ebay. This model isnt available in the US yet. and it's not on the US site. The H8 was only $499 at B&H with $100 discount and free shipping. The Benro C3770TN tripod is $485. This ships from China so I wont have it for two weeks. I'll do a review when it comes in. I do have high hopes it will be good. Not bad for around $1K

To see more info on the Benro line check out the UK site
