I have no idea what it is about. But it looks good.

Nice exposures; I'd have lit the car a little more but I shouldn't talk--I've never finished a major project despite many I've started. The camerawork is good too and it seemed professional--film like motion without any strobing. As a trailer it doesn't grab me and the lack of robots is dissapointing. Otherwise very solid.

Definitely never advertise robots then not have a lot of them, though.

How did you manage to get the rights to use a Broken Social Scene song?

Hmmm, I like to stay positive. If this was your first try great. But really, the trailer doesn't make me want to see the whole movie.

What can I suggest?

The clips appear completely random. I don't get how the title is connected to the film.

This could be great, and you're the next Tarantino, but I really can't tell from the trailer.

On a positive note. There's something polished enough about all of it that makes me want to compare it to what I see on the big screen. Therefore, I'm comparing it to trailers I see at the movies. Doing that, I rate it a 3 on a scale 1-10.

If this is right after film school, it's an 8. Make sense?

It didn't evoke any real emotion in me. I am puzzled, but not enough to want to know more.

If you can, I'd recommend doing something to pique our interest.

What can I say about this lilttle preview?

The music is a nice choice for the what I assume the genre is (a quirky love story? A week in the lives of single people looking for love? one mans journey in discovering love that was there all along? an alien race takes over a bunch of hip single people? pod people replace hip love seeking single people with other hip single people all looking for love that is right in front of them but they must go in search of this in all the wrong places before they realize this and defeat the alien race?).

There are 2 negatives that stood out immediatley for me and that is the 2 particular actors that are either intentionally over acting or arent actors at all and doing their best to act before laughing? perhaps that is intentional?

Some positives are that I think you have chosen some nice compositional shots whether they be INT or EXT. I saw some nice choices; what I mean is the cinematography does not look amatuer at all. someone knew what they were doing for the most part.

I also see some really nice lighting OVERALL. Specifically, I can see some nice use of lighting placement sans one important area: FILL. Is it just me or my monitor? Even in shots that look carefully lighting (or at least careful use of available lighting, alot of the actors seem to be missing the magical ingedient in photography. FILL lighting on their faces.

SHOT OF ACTORS ON COUCH

Looks great. There is obvious use of lighting and it looks very good but I also see the darks crushed to the point of NO DETAIL WHATSOEVER.

SHOT OF ACTORS IN CAR

Great comp but ZERO lighting. I cant see them :/

CRAZY BAD ACTOR ON CELL

Nice lighting.

DUDE IN FRONT OF MINI AMPITHEATRE

I cant see his face :/ No fill?

GIRL IN FRONT OF SLOOP

Very nicely done. Magic hour? Whatever the case I love it.

I could go on but I will not. That is my take. I actually am interested in this little piece and wonder if I could see this NTSC would it be a dramatic difference in terms of levels?

I am a fan of crushed blacks but in alot of the footage shown here, it almost seems too crushed.

:-* gcaus must know something that noone else knows since he does refer to himself in the plural. "The next Tarantino" as if that meant something superlative, Pique this!

I think what he meant was "You could be the next great thing but its hard to tell from just a trailer..." which I think is a way of saying "I cant judge this merely on a trailer alone"

As already said the feel looks good with some nice magic hour shots that I loved, like by the boat, but it is disconected. Lets see some more and make heads or tails ;D

Thank you for all the feedback! This site is awesome. I'd like to give you a little more info. Robot Love isn't the title it's the three man crew that made the five individual shorts title: Jared and Tyler: exploration of the worst case scenario.

If anyone is interested in seeing them on the big screen they will be premiering in Santa Barbara on Sept. 9th.

www.robotloveusa.com

I wish I could post the individual shorts but I would like to hold off from showing them until the night of the premiere.

As far as the concept for the trailer. The idea was to spark intrigue by not giving away too much of the story. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and A Clockwork Orange were a few trailers that I admired. It was a fine line between showing the more funny moments and holding them for the premiere. I figured most of the people who went to our website would be from word of mouth, and be attending the premiere. So for that reason I didn't want to spoil the best moments in the short films for the people in attendance at the premiere.

Overall, the more I saw of the trailor, I saw what direction you were trying to go in. I really enjoyed the trailor, the editing and the quirkiness of it all.
It looks like a very intelligent and well crafted piece. Good Luck with it.
