Hi Everyone,
Been a forum follower since before the GH1 was released. I got lucky enough that the FW crack was released a week before I started shooting my newest movie. Now after a busy winter, I am ready to release the first trailer and I would love to know what you all think:

I shot almost everything with the Panny 20mm 1.7 and Canon fd 50mm 1.4 ssc. Most of the movie was shot while flying on a Steadicam Merlin, which produces amazing results with a 50mm lens on the cropped sensor.

This community was always such a great source of knowledge (not to mention the firmware hack), I would love to give back.

Amazing - I hope the acting can match the incredible cinematography. Which sequences were with the 20mm?

Hi xSDMx - thanks for the great comment. The actors were fantastic on this project I can't wait to share an edited scene with you guys so you can see their talent represented. I am so grateful to those guys.

To answer you question, all of the wide shots and medium close-ups were done with the 20mm lens. I put a wide angle conversion lens on top of it to get it down to a 14mm for the motel shot towards the end of the trailer - you can see a bit of barrel distortion in the walls but its not too bad and worked for the scene. The 20mm is practically invented to use with the steadicam merlin. It is so light that balancing it is a bit tricky, and I actually add a bit of weight to the sled to give it a bit more mass. But once its set up and balanced, its so light that I can use it for hours without my arm falling off.

The trailer looks really good! Great cinematography and it looks to be an interesting story. Nice job!

Thanks for the comments guys - it is very much appreciated.

One thing I wasn't happy about for this production was the Zoom H4N. I used it for most of the audio, but couldn't have it for a few days and rented a Tascam instead. The sound quality of the Tascam was so much better in the end - compared to the Zoom it is much more rich.

Wow, very inmersive style that instantly draws you into the intrigue. And it's really quite impressive how you managed the framing with just a pair of basic prime lenses.

I've been using the Zoom H4N for live dialog recording, and I'd be interested to hear of any shortcomings you've encountered with it. While I've found the built-in mics useful for picking up environment sounds, for dialog I typically use one or two booms with Audio Technica AT875R shotguns. The H4N has worked quite well when I give it a lot of headroom at 24-bit/48Khz, recording at low average db levels.
