got my new Lectro SRa5p today just in time for a show I start on monday

Look forward to testing this baby out.
(actually its a good shoot to me if i NEVER have to wire anyone
so hopefully i'll just test it out for fun)

I actually bought the sony battery sled but its not quite ready to ship so they sent me the standard
bottom for the time being.

Cant really give a super detailed review yet as 2 of the 3 pieces that came had
issues so I didnt use them that much.

Both the receiver and 1 transmitter had membrane (?) button issues.
They arent actual buttons but "bubbles" you push down.
1 of the transmitter buttons was stuck in the down position.
1 of the receivers buttons if you just hovered your finger over it.it would go nuts.

Here is where buying "pro" is important.
After the 1st day of using them I emailed Lectrosonics about the problem..
within hours they shipped out all new units.
Very high marks in that regard.

The SMDA transmitters are very nice. I already owned 1 SM which is actually smaller..
but I wanted to get the duel battery version for longer batt life.
They are not too too much smaller than the standard UM400 tranmitters but
much much thinner. Very nice to take out of the leather case and just put it in an actors front pocket.

The receiver, is REALLY light. And decently smaller than the 411's.
It isnt in the same ball park as the 411 in ruggedness. (its really designed to be in
a camera slot so no need).
I really wanted to go lighter and smaller, but i wish it was a little more rugged.
It would have been nice to keep the current footprint on size but made the outside shell
the same material as the 411's.

I cant comment enough about the sound quality yet because when I used it so far
the situations were pretty bad, not letting me really judge the sound quality.
Nothing that stood out though.

I do like that since im switching over to all SMDA's and SMA's that
I can start using easily attainable AA rechargables for the most part.

1st. NICE pieces of lectros.
2nd. When you get a chance, compare the recordings during the most quietest speaking lines to see what the SNR is.
3rd. It's nice being an environmental friendly sound mixer. I, too, want to switch to all rechargeable AA's as they are universal (AA's alkaline).

First off it's Lectrosonic so it's good. Only thing comparable is Zaxcom. I don't like the AA bat set up I find the single's don't last long. The 9v 400 set up last longer.
Nice buy Rippie

hey Allen,
just so you know the SM (AA battery models)
need to use either Nimh rechargables or lithiums

a um400 9volt
and SM Nimh have a very comparable battery life.

And with the SMDA the batt life is pretty much doubled.

Since AA rechargables are so easily attainable (target, homedepot.etc..etc)
and you can get 4x for 10 bux...

its a very affordable solution.

I'll keep some lith's in my kit for those unexpected jobs where I dont
have time to charge, but my NiMH charger can charge 4 AA's
in about 10-15 mins.
