New toy

Since the D300 came out, the prices on D200's have hit an all time low! I took advantage and bought one earlier this week! It was delivered today and I'm freaking out over how awesome this thing is.

The batteries are charging now (that's right, 2...cause it came with the grip! :) ) and I can't wait to take some shots with it! Hopefully I can have some easter pics this weekend that I can post.

That said, I'm selling my D40 to offset the cost of this new fun toy! I wish I could keep it b/c it rules...but ya gotta do what you gotta do.

Here is a pic I took last night with the D40 of the moon!

Here is one with the D200 using mirror lockup on a tripod.

Yeah thats an awesome shot. The detail is pretty spectacular with all of the lines splaying out from the craters. I need to do some moon photography... How long of a lens did you shoot with? Let us know how you like the d200.

Thanks guys. I was using my 70-300 @ 300mm. This was still heavily cropped however. I'm thinking you really need like a 400 or 500 with a TC to really get something super close.

This one was also hand held. I'm going to try it with the D200 and a tripod using mirror lockup to see just how sharp I can get it. Hopefully can post that soon.

The D200 is awesome.

If you go to Nikonians.org you can download a couple of menu settings for each of your banks and input them... I prefer to do these rather than load custom curves.

Actually, I only use the auto and the landscape... I modified the portrait to work with my portrait shooting settings and the sports one bothered me with the auto ISO so I changed that to more of a general setting with no autoISO.

Let me know if you want to see my camera settings, I can rig them up for you.

Thanks Jeremy. I've shot with a friends before, but I never had any idea that it had so many menu options. I'll check out Nikonians for sure, and if I have any questions I'll hit ya up.

Extra plus, the seller never even told me it had a Katzeye. YAY!

I know I would! Heck, I'd have seconds. And then polish it off with a tall cool Budweiser.

Hehe!

Lake, I totally don't remember.....but the pic links to my flickr page and it has the details there. After looking at it a bit, it was a little darker than I think I cared for. I just re-edited it and re-posted.

I added a shot from the D200.

For Lake, this one was f/11, ISO 100, 1/250th. Was a little dark though. Probably should have been about 1/100th. I lightened is some in Lightroom.
