GH2 New to GH2. Where to start?

I just bought my GH2. Good deal on panasonic.com through facebook. It's going to be my b-camera next to my AF 100 and will probably dabbling in a little photography. This is my first video dslr but I have used them before. I guess I'm looking for advice on my first few steps for shooting. Should I hack it as soon as it gets here?

Naw. I would see if you're happy with the normal bitrates and stuff first. I've tried a variety of hacks and have found myself just using the default firmware.

@Andor That is surprising, I would have expected you would use Cluster or mpgxcds no adverse effects patch or CBrandin 44 mbps or EOSHD Unified 44 at the very least.

Usually the only time I use factory settings is when I am testing things or only have slow memory cards free or I need to shoot an unusually long event.

Thanks! I'll check it out for a bit but I'm pretty sure I'm going to hack it. I'm just excited to start playing with it.

@seanothon If you want to get a sense for how the different settings for the hack (Drifwood Sedna, LPowell Flowmotion, EOSHD Unified 88, etc.) all perform, keep an eye out. Tomorrow I am coordinating a team of around 10 camera operators in the largest GH2 hack comparison to date and several people from this site are graciously participating. :)

That's amazing. I'll be looking for your results. I assume you'll post it or a link on dvx?

Did this happen yesterday?

Yes, but due to some last minute roster changes, some of the patches I had wanted tested did not get done (like No Adverse Effects).

I will be doing some supplemental testing to fill in those patches (like No Adverse Effects and Flow Motion) either today or tomorrow.

Bummer. But I applaud your effort. This does sound like a good test with a lot of very useful data.

Good info in your tutorial videos. I am a new GH2 user and have a LOT to learn, so your videos were ideal for me.
