GH2 New to GH2, is this normal?

Just got a new gh2 and it looks to me to be defective. The LCD screen flashes on & Off when rotating the lens down or up about 90 degrees. Is this normal behavior or do I need to have it replaced? Thanks for your reply.

You probably are putting your hand near the viewfinder so the LCD will shut off and then the viewfinder will be engaged. Same way as if you put your eye up to it. You can select it to be either/ or or to have the ability to switch. Don't think it's defective, just a bit quirky.

I also really like the EVF on the GH2... Great little thing. Also... welcome to DVXuser. Very friendly group of people and the knowledge on this site is beyond compare!

I have mine set so that when the screen is open it uses that, or when it is closed the EVF stays on. The auto mode is fine for taking stills but not so great when shooting video.

Page 16 of the manual: About the eye sensor automatic switching Eye sensor is active when the [AUTO SWITCH] of the [LVF/LCD SWITCH] (P134) in the [CUSTOM] menu is set to [ON], switching automatically to viewfinder display when an eye or object is moved closer to the viewfinder, and to LCD monitor display when moved away. Sensitivity of the eye sensor can be set to [LOW] or [HIGH] with [SENSITIVITY]

Hope that helps.

Yeah, that drove me crazy for the first little while. It will switch even during recording.
