Hello,

I am new to the dv world. I just purchased a dvx100 a couple of days ago and should have it very soon.

In the mean time I have been fooling around with a Panasonic GS200 and now I think I want to get more serious about movie making....

What would really help me out is a few good links to a beginners guide for shooting dv (well actually basic movie making) and the best editing software to start with. I have been using Studio 9 but I want to upgrade to something really good for PC when I get my DVX100.

Also, I have read a lot on this board about after effects, compression tools etc. What all will I need to start shooting and editing?

Thanks and I look forward to learning as much as I can from you all. Like I said I am very new to this and have no experience but in the last few months I have really enjoyed playing around. I even did my first short with the GS200 but I am a little shy to post it here because of all the amazing talent I see....maybe when I get my DVX100 and a couple of years behind me.

Well anyways if any of you can point me in the right direction for good editing software and all the plugins I will need to begin this journey I would really appreciate it. I can upgrade as I get more experienced and make better movies :)

I would start by reading the post that is (currently) right below yours entitles "NLE which one?" Additionally you can look through all of the different editing software pages on this forum and read about each one. Finally most have a downloadable free trial version and you can take them for a test drive yourself.

All you need to start shooting and editing is the camera and editing software (regardless of which one your choose). After Effects, compression tools, etc. can all come later.

Like I said before I am very new to video period. Every bit helps.

I just need a good starter package but not the ones you find at bestbuy for under $100

Yeah, I wouldn't recommend anything purchased at Best Buy or anything that came bundled with your Operating System. ;D
