New to Avid

I edit in Final Cut but I am helping with a project at work on Avid.

Would greatly appreciate any help or suggestions on two questions:

1) I want to apply a widescreen matte to 4X3 standard def footage. In Final Cut this matte is found under Video Filters. Is there a similar matte in Avid, and where would I find it?

2) The computer here with Avid is not online. How best to compress the project from the timeline in order to make a deliverable file that I can send to YouTube from some other computer? It will just be a two-minute piece.

Look under the reformat section in the effects palette for presets as well as full pan & scan interface.

Highlight sequence, file/export - Select QT.Custom, and you have all the function of MoviePlayer for export. If you have QT Pro, you have more of them.

thanks folks -- we found the matte effects. will try soon to do the compression for YouTube. Appreciate your quick responses!

You'll wanna throw a rezise effect on there and crop it for the letterbox. Their reformat letterbox has an alias stair step in it.
After you mix it down, export a QT reference to sorenson squeez. You can then encode a nice wmv for the web.
