New to Avid, please help

Hello,

I have both Avid and Premiere 7.0. I just did my first bit of editing, and did it on Premiere because the person helping me knows Premiere better than he does Avid.

However, now I'm having huge problems getting the footage in DVD format. I posted this question on the Premiere board, and I read a post saying Avid really has an easy clean way to get this done. Since I have both, maybe I could import the finished file into Avid then do it from there.

Can anyone guide me through this? I need to get this out in the mail today! No exceptions.

I have a DVD buner and just bought Roxio softare, but I need some help. It's urgent.

Can someone respond?

If you want to call me and help over the phone, my number is 702-743-8111. All the people I know that can help haven't been answering their phones in the last two day, which is why I'm on here asking for help.

Thanks.

Re: New to Avid, please help

In Avid - you export the seqeunce using a QUickTime reference movie and then encode that using Sorenson Squeeze to create the MPEG2 assets. From there, the MPEG2 files are brought into the DVD authoring program for DVD creation.

Thanks. Sounds a little complicated. I managed to get it with Premiere, though it was time consuming and I had to do a lot of trial and error. Still not perfect, yet.

Thanks for the response, though.

glad to hear you got it. i used to use quick time and sorenson also it was time comsuming so i bought a dvd recorder and play it off the timeline its turned out to be so much easier. if you have more problems with qt and sorenson message me i have a cheat sheet for the settings.

Re: New to Avid, please help

I am curious to know what your settings are w/ sorenson. There are times I notice quite a drop down in quality from what I see on the timeline and what is finally compressed and encoded w/ sorenson. I usually output the sequence to QT ref file, and then compress in sorenson with the default settings.
