New to 370 and nervous about shoot on Friday

I have a shoot on Friday with a brand new 370. I tested the camera out and got lots of wobble and skew while shooting in 30p 1080HD handheld in a broadcast news set. I wasn't doing any quick pans just slight floats. Strange how the background and foreground seem to be going in different directions. I'm not used to this skew thing and need to minimize it ASAP. A big part of the shoot will be a cyclist, If I get the same issues I'm screwed. Any settings I need to make to lessen the skew issue would be very much appreciated.
I'm so swamped with other projects I just cant spend the time researching how to minimize this.
I know I cant stop it since its a cmos thing but if I can make changes to the settings that will help cut it down that would be great.

Thanks in advance.
Erik.

Hi Erik, was the wobble you saw in the viewfinder/ lcd or on the actual recorded footage?

Just wondered as the 370's viewfinder/lcd has a relatively slow refresh rate and they always show some skew/wobble even when there is none recorded by the camera.
I'm in pal land so only use 25p here but i never get skew on slow moves at all..

cheers Andy

..edit.. i wonder if your also seeing the famous background scrawl caused by the PAP noise filter. Ignoring the skew for a sec, if your seeing the background "shimmering/moving" differently to the foreground object, it might be the cameras default noise filter at work.

Out of the box the camera ships with its noise filter on PAP type 1 iirc.. you can change it to PAP 2 and the background shifting is massively reduced (ie i dont see it anymore).. Im not at home so i cant remember exactly the button sequence to change it but maybe others have it to hand :)

Yup, the refresh is rather lax in the VF and catches a lot of people off guard, but there is no skew in the footage. The 370 is supposed to be improved over the 300 in that sense, and should be on par with other CMOS cameras in skew performance.
To switch PAP modes (make sure you have the latest firmware) hold the DSP/MODE CHK button and then press the Menu button, this will activate a new "option" menu at the end of the menu list, where you can change PAP modes.

Its what was recorded.
Your description of the Famous background scrawl is what I see. I will change the PAP noise filter setting and shoot a test.

Thanks!!!!
