New Test Video - Saturation and Skin Tone - Thank you Kholi for Pic Pro

Thanks Ed; the handheld and quick edits made this feel like a home movie reel; that's a compliment - it gave the emotional feel of nostalgia and intimacy.

Vectorscope is satisfied on this test.

Nice! S-log2?

Yessir, Kholi's slog2 profile on this one. It's a good balance and works well with the other settings I like to use to bring the image back. Gives you enough color to desaturate and more than enough if you don't feel the need. Adding saturation just doesn't look right to me. Always looks "cooked" so it's better to add enough that won't clip to the profile and bake it in first.

if asking about the video - the FilmConvert setting is Arri Alexa as the camera. logC. film stock is Fuji Film 8543 Vivid. color 93. curve 100. size 35mm full frame. grain 0. it can be a little too punchy in places, but overall gives a nice creamy look. the banding is interesting. it doesn't really bother me too much. I think shooting to 4:2:2 on the external recorders will help with this. The whole 8 bit vs 10 bit thing isn't as big of a deal as most people think. I've used 8 bit for so long and have graded fine off of it. 10-bit is a modern camera thing! :)

One thing I've noticed with Alexa LUTS being used on the A7s footage is that it brings out a ton of noise in the sky vs. the F55 LUTS. Just a fair warning. Try it out and see what results you get.

It does. I'm curious what it is doing to the highlights. I like the punch ones and more contrast vs sony f55 FCC outs though.

I've had issues with both those LUTs. S-Gamut combined with the F55 LUT really sux, skin is transparent. My kids have very pale skin and with S-Gamut you can see the veins and those yellow splotches under their eyes.

Now I'm using the default LUT with Velvia and turning contrast in R11 down to around -.850, gamma down to around -.30, and gain up to between +.13 - +.35, and saturation to suit. I'm getting much better colour right off the bat, only needing to do very minor mid adjustments for skin. I've used those settings on all my S-Gamut footage and everything looks pretty good.
