New technology for film?

Hi,

I was wondering if there has been any recent news on new technology being introduced or used for film companies, filmmaking or film production?

Thanks.

Lots. Every week, almost. But this is a pretty broad question. What, exactly, are you wondering about?

New cameras? New film stocks? New camera support? New lighting? New sound gear?

I was wondering how new technology has an affect on today's filmmaking production.

Do you know a good source where news about new filmmaking technology are being used/announced/introduced?

This sounds suspiciously like a question on someone's homework...

Yeah. That said... all you have to do is read through the myriad threads around here. What technology has affected film making lately? Well... solid-state recording, 24p acquisition for video (especially consumer/prosumer), HD CMOS imagers, variable frame rates on prosumer cameras, the iPad, the iPhone 4, low-cost audio recorders from Zoom and Tascam and Fostex, LED lights... the list could go on. Just look around. Pick a forum on any DSLR or newer HD camera (AF100, FS100, etc.) and read through threads.

And another idea? Look back through the threads, chronologically. You'll see how things have changed over the last few years... even two years back is drastically different.

The annual IBC trade show was earlier this month. There was a lot of new technology introduced there.

Start with your local newspaper. Seriously. They probably have a tech column, even if it's a syndicated one.

Also, Studio Daily, Variety, Filmmaker, Post Magazine, American Cinematographer, ArsTechnica, EnGadget...

And I here this Google thing is a good source of information, too.

Technology has impacted the film industry greatly over the past several years. With the availability of high quality equipment at increasingly more reasonable prices, the potential to create high quality work is available to nearly everyone.

With that said, for our company, we have embarked on a project to create a completely live feature film. Film, computer, and internet technologies are all finally at a point to where this is possible. After completing tests earlier this year, we decided it is now possible to stream a live film at HD resolutions into not only homes, but theaters as well. Every aspect of the film will be done completely in real time. This includes, "filming", editing, sound, special effects, etc, all done on the fly and broadcast live.
