New SxS card from Wise works with upgraded Sony F3

Cool.

Been using MxR adapter and class 10 sd cards, haven't had problems yet, but this seems like a cool solution if you are in a pinch and need a quick offload.

yeah I do too many shoots that per hour are too expensive to rely on SD cards, I just never wanna hit that wall again, once was enough for me. I know a lot of people who have the same outlook on them, and then theres always that fear of Sony's firmware updates making the SD card readers un-usable.

But I was assured that this card is built and might even use the same chips as the Sony ones do, making it pretty much an exact copy of the Sony cards other than the interface. I like that they are cheaper too lol, and with no need to buy additional readers, any DIT/AC who does off loading will love being able to copy 2 or more cards at the same time without dealing with rental of additional readers.

Mostly shooting with external recorders so I guess its not that big of a deal anyway. I heard these work well with the Alexa too, that would be cool to test with, I might have the chance to do some tests with them and the Alexa shooting 4444 to them, tbd though.

Another happy Wise Card user here. Been pounding on a pair or 32GB cards for a few days without issue. The built in USB is handy but slow.

Sony sells there own SxS to SDHC adapters now but the explicitly do not support over cranking.

With the memory card adapters, anyone had issues with 720 60p? I read some reviews online that overcranking did not work well with some of these but didn't get any specifics if it was the class card being used, or the sxs adapter..

Any insight would be appreciated.

I've been using the Wise cards without a problem. I've got 3 32gb cards and have used them for several shoots and I'm very happy. I even find the USB transfer quite handy.

Hoodsman experience

Hoodsman experience

My experience with the Hoodsman card and adapter are not good. Sometimes the camera recognizes them, sometimes not.
I have formatted/recorded onto the cards with success even with overcranked material, but sometimes they just don't mount. I have 2 adapters 2 32gb card and 1 16gb card.
Trust me I have inserted and re-inserted plus re-booted many times. I pop in the Sony SXS and it works every time.
I can't have that kind of uncertainty on a shoot so they are being returned. Does anyone else have problems with the Hoodman besides me?

What is the purpose of the "pro" series cards versus regular cards that the EX series cams used?

The PRO cards are based on SLC flash media, which is more expensive to produce, but has a longer lifespan, whereas the SxS-1 cards are based on MLC media, which is cheaper to producer, has a shorter lifespan, but also has a faster read speed.

In practice, the PRO cards last 10 times as long, for 50% to 100% more in upfront cost. The faster read speed of SxS-1 isn't enough to mean much (1200Mbps instead of 800Mbps) in most environments.

I only buy the PRO cards, and their lifespan is long enough that I generally feel safe buying them used too.

Depending on how frequently you shoot and wipe cards, SxS-1 cards could easily last the life of the camera. But if you shoot and wipe once a day or more, they'll die on you within a few years.

be warned sxs-1 cards may read faster, but write slower. they don't work on Alexa because they are slower in write speed. In case anybody picks up sxs-1 one cards and decides to bring them on any Alexa shoot.

Are the Wise cards MLC? Should they be treated as SxS-1 cards? At the pricing, I would doubt they're like the PRO cards.

Anyone know?

I have a couple of the WISE S2 32gig SxS cards that were doing fine until I upgraded my two MBP's to OS Lion......Now there's problems with downloading the media off of the WISE cards on those Mac's using XDCam Transfer and/or FCP Studio. I keep getting messages flash up saying that the "device wasn't disconnected properly" and then sometimes no video shows on the XDCam Transfer window....FCP Log and Transfer sees the media but will not load it. Everything works fine on another iMac I have here that's still running Snow Leopard. Has anyone else run into this wall?
Oh yes, using these cards in a PMW-F3, forgot to mention that......But until this problem's solved I cannot use the WISE cards on location with either of my MBP's. Not going to lug the 27" iMac around with me!
