New Special Effects TEST

Thanks man! Sorry for the bad quality... but then again, it may help the home-movie feel to it...

Effects looked good, only thing that bothered me was the shake. It didn't seem natural, and I could tell it was applied in post. I'd recommend shooting some black +s taped to your wall and doing the shake you want yourself, then using that tracking data and apply it to your image.

i thought it was good, just tough to see what was going(Shaking) on but im guessing that was intrentional.

Hey thanks alot guys! I'm fixing the shake problem (at the very beginning--I agree, it's goes all funky) as well as the desaturated static ending part. Thanks for the tips, and I should have the updated version up very soon.

Thanks!
Colin

Thanks! Yeah, I was going for the home-movie feel. Thanks to those who have watched it....

looked great. especially on you tube, if you took the date off a lot of people would think it was real.

i'd liked to have seen a little more at the top of the frame - just a little more, probably because i was watching it on the small screen.

Haha thanks! Yeah, I just added the date "December 21, 2012" because I thought it might be a little bit funny (since that's when the Mayan calendar ends).

Thanks for the views and comments!

Cheers,
Colin

Here's what I did:

I got a high-resolution picture of the building off the internet, dropped it into After Effects and worked away.

First, I added a simple camera tilt, upward. Then I began to add all of the explosions from some stock footage. Then, I linked the stock footage to the picture (so it would follow the camera's motions). I then use 'The Wiggler' inside of After Effects to create the bumps and shakes.

Lastly, I brought it into Premiere Pro to do some color correction and a few other simple things. I also added sound effects: city ambiance, explosions, glass shattering, metal bending, etcetera...

All in all, it took a little over 4 hours to actually create, then a bunch of rendering time... (especially since I used motion blur to give it that "home movie feel".

And that's about it! ;)

Thanks to those who watched and commented,

looks like one of those shots from armageddon when new york city is destroyed. nice effect.

i would make the meteor/comet a bit more visible, though. thicker, more opaque smoke. brighter flames. that kind of thing.

Thank you! I had a problem with the missile (yeah, kind of looked like a comet) from the beginning. It was some very dim stock footage, so I actually duplicated the footage on top of each other, to make it brighter. It helped a little bit, but apparently not enough.

Cheers!

Wow... these threads can get lost easily. Within a week your thread can be scooted back three pages! Haha... thanks again guys.

Hey not bad at all, excellent shot overall

only one crit (don't take it the wrong, way I'm no expert) I'm not sure if its the compression, but just after the explosion the "black smoke", doesn't seem right, I'm not sure which blend mode you used, but it doesn't sit quite right, perhaps try using a different mode, and also paint the destruction so that as the "black smoke" clears, it leaves permanent smoke marks, becuause your current shot, leaves the same building clean building before and after.

I hope you do not mis interpret my post, as negative comments, just trying to give postive feedback.
